Anyone know a good spot in Florida to rent a condo and relax?

Looking for a beach vacation without having to to an island

  • Sanibel Island, Florida.  It is an island but you can drive onto it.  It is small, quaint and beautiful!  We live just down the street and go all the time to beach!

For our Honeymoon, DH and I went to Pensacola Beach, which is an island but like the PP it can be driven on to.

We love going to Carillon Beach near Panama City Beach. It is a small gated community with a few restaurants and shopping within the gates. We rent bikes to get around. We have stayed in both houses and a "downtown" condo. If it is just you and DH, we really liked this little house.

All the houses and condos are walking distance to the beach and the pools (I think there are 3 pools).

  • We enjoy the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach area.  The beaches are white and the water is blue/greenl, and there is shopping and dining nearby.  If you want something more remote,  Sea Grove is a condo area about 20 miles from Destin that is less commercial.  Seaside (between Destin and Sea Grove) offers beautiful rental houses with unique architecture.  The beaches on the panhandle are very lovely.

My family lives the next town over from Pensacola Brach and have rented condos for graduation weekend in June. We have done it before and had a lot of fun.

  • (Miami resident here...) FOR SURE Siesta Key. We go with family every year. The beach has been rated #1 in the country by Dr. Beach for a few years. Laid back, relaxing, crisp white super fine sand, gorgeous sunsets and great food options in the area!

  • We live near Clearwater Beach and it is nice to visit... however, I really do love Anna Maria and Siesta Key too.  We were married in Key West which may be farther than you want to go, but we always love it there!

My grandparents live near Clearwater Beach and I freaking love it there. I don't know much about condo rentals, because we just stay with them ;)

We have been to Sanibel Island before, though, and it was gorgeous.

ETA: we've also been to Anna Maria too.

My brother also lived near Clearwater and I'll agree that it's beautiful there!! I don't know much about rentals either but I would definitely recommend it!!

My parents have a timeshare (but units are available for rental) at Las Olas Beach Club in Satellite Beach (near Cocoa Beach).  It's a small resort with large units, a pool, and right on the beach.  A great place to relax.

  • Thanks bumpies!! I was getting overwhelmed with all the options so this definately helps narrow things down!

  • I am from Tallahassee, lived in Tampa and now in Orlando. I would definitely recommend Destin, Siesta Keys or Cocoa Beach but my top choice is Destin.
  • Sanibel is an island. Siesta Key is amazing. Rated in the top beaches in the country. You cannot beat the sand on that beach.

  • Another FL resident with a Siesta Key vote! It's beautiful and you can walk to the Village for lunch/dinner and live music! Sanibel is beautiful but I felt like there wasn't as much to do.

  • I like how most of the Florida residents agree that Siesta Key is the place to be.  Before I got married, I rented a house that I was walkable to the beach on SK.Yeah, moving to the 'burbs of Tampa was kinda hard.

  • By the way, vrbo.com is a great place to rent houses/condos.  Siesta Key doesn't have many hotels.
