Clicky - carseat poll

I'm second guessing where we've put the seat. Just curious what others have done.

Re: Clicky - carseat poll

  • I went center, because it's the safest location in the car, and used the seatbelt. I just discovered it has the LATCH anchors, but...seatbelt just seems safer.

DH put it on the driver's side but will be moving it to the center (and using the seatbelt) because when he drives he moves the seat back too far
  • We have a minivan so there is no centre seat.  We put it on the passenger side because it is the farthest from the door.  Our van doesn't have the latch system so we used the seat belt.
  • I did center with seat belt only because I have DS's car seat installed on the passengers side with the latch system and my middle doesn't have the latches so that is why we are using the seat belt. It makes for a snug fit, but it seems to work and it also allows for my step son to have a place to sit if we are all in my vehicle together.

  • I'm surprised how few vehicles offer LATCH in the center. I realize that the seatbelt is as safe as LATCH, but the latter is so much easier to use.

  • DS2 is behind the passenger seat and DS1 is forward facing center (we just switched him at 2.5 due to a rear facing carseat in the middle position blocking all air flow and we are heading into summer)

  • My truck - Center with seat belt. DH's car - Driver's side with latch.  His center seat doesn't have a lap belt and is retractable so you can't tighten it which makes me feel better with it latched in.

We put this carseat behind the drivers side and put DS (who is still rear facing as well) behind the passenger side in both cars and using the LATCH system.

To clarify: when it was just DS we put him in the center seat with the seatbelt since the center didn't have the LATCH option.

  • When we had a car with DD#1 it was the centre with the seat belt since it was an older car.  With our van we have bucket seats so both girls are on an outside. And we use the anchors!
  • My uncle is a firefighter and had to get carseat training. He said the center is the safest -- if you get hit from the side, then baby is safest by being in the middle.  Hope that helps!

We had to go passenger side. H's legs are way too long and the front seat would be pushing up against the back of the car seat which was labeled as unsafe in the manual.

  • Ours is on the driver's side using LATCH. From what I have seen, center is safest because center is safest for everyone, you're farthest away from windows/intrusion. However, it is more important you get a good, strong install, and the best way to do that is to use LATCH anchors. Since my car (Toyota Prius) is not set up for you to use the LATCH anchors from the middle position (even though you theoretically could) the safest thing for us to do is to use the LATCH anchors in their prescribed place: the side.
