Success after IF

BETA went up, but didn't double - thoughts?

My BETA on Thursday was 18 (8dp5dt) and today, Saturday, it's 21 (10dp5dt).  RE said it didn't sound good, but they want to keep me on the progesterone and estrogen just in case.  I go back in 5 days for another blood draw.

Am looking for brutally honest answers.  Do you think it's over?  I just can't believe this.  This is FET #2 for us - 3 transfers in the last 4 months.

I'm having tons of PG symptoms though which is confusing me even more.....  Ack!

several failed cycles on clomid and lose dose injectibles, IUI #1 2009 - BFN IUI #2 2009 - BFP - boy/girl twins born at 31 weeks. IVF #1= BFN; FET #1 = c/p; FET #2 = c/p, FET #3 = negative, FET #4 = positive, baby stillborn at 24 weeks.

Re: BETA went up, but didn't double - thoughts?

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Not to be an alarmist, but I'd be concerned about an ectopic. My numbers were similar and it turned out ectopic.

  • I'm sorry - it doesn't sound good.

And I 2nd the worry about an ectopic. My beta with my first pg (which happened right before starting a cycle) was similar - and they were monitoring me very closely b/c they were worried about it being ectopic.  I ended up being happy that it dropped on it's own - otherwise I would have needed methotrexate, which is no fun... so make sure they are monitoring every day or every other with more betas.

    :(

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • I am sorry you are dealing with this.  It seems like these situations often have sad outcomes, but I wanted let you know that one of my babies had a beta that went from 57 to 61 (14 dpiui and 16 dpiui.). She is 3.5 now.  Sometimes it works out ok. I sure hope that you beat the odds too.
  • i'm so sorry. my honest thoughts are that it does not sound good; however, i'll be praying that you are one of the rare cases with low betas.

  • Thanks everyone.  Just can't believe it's another possible chemical pregnancy!  My last one was chemical too.  Everything seems perfect at transfer time - embryo quality is great, nice lining - all good.  So I'm sitting here thinking, what gives??

The sad part is were OOP and this was probably our last try for a while.  We've got 4 frozens left, but we just can't budget another transfer right now.  This sucks......And now more waiting.

  • I'm so sorry.  I don't want to be an alarmist either, but those were my betas when I had an ectopic.  I don't think it sounds good either.  But I guess there's always hope.  Praying that you have a great outcome.  Hugs to you!

  • I"m sorry but it doesn't sound good. I know how hard it is to go through so many transfers, it's no picnic that's for sure.

That sucks...My betas were similar with my FET last year and it turned out to be a chemical pg.  (I've also had an ectopic before but those betas were completely normal.)  I hope your next blood draw is a definitive one way or another.  Beta He!! is the worst!  Hang in there...

I like this answer - I'm hoping it's just a chilly embie taking an extra minute to get going.  Hoping for the best for you!

  • It sounds like my ectopic.  The doctors gave me the run around with blood draws until my tube ruptured and i ended up in emergency surgery.  I would not wait another 5 days......im sorry i wish i had a better answer

  • This happened to me with my chemical pregnancy, mine actually doubled before taking 7 weeks to go back down:(

I'm sorry, I don't think it looks good, but I don't think your numbers are crazy enough to think etopic.

When I had my chemical pregnancy I started having morning sickness too:(

HUGS, I'm so sorry you have to go through this, you will have an answer if 5 days for a definite answer. This is so unfair!!
