Hi Ladies,
I just want to say a quick hello, I've been lurking for awhile, but figured now would be a good time to come out of hiding.  I'm 38 and will be 39 in August, we've been basically trying since we got married 3 years ago, but not seriously until about a year 1/2 ago.  I've always had crazy long cycles but recently they've gotten worse.

I had my 1st RE appointment a few weeks ago and the follow up on Friday after taking about a gallon blood, doing the 2 hour GTT a full panel of questions and an internal ultrasound I finally have a diagnosis and a plan. My RE said I have PCOS-IR, I guess it's good to know that they've finally decided that I "do" have PCOS, originally by my ob and the RE they said it wasn't PCOS, but she went over the blood work and saw a few little cysts on my ovaries, but not the typical "string of pearls" she decided it was PCOS-IR.

Heres my question, in the blood work they found an elevated prolactin level (35) so I'm going to have an MRI on friday to rule out hyperprolactinemia, has anyone had an elevated prolactin level?
Finally the plan to get me pregnant is first to put me on MF for three months to see how it works or if it works then if that doesn't work we try a few cycles of Clomid w/TI  then a couple rounds of IUIs she also suggested because of my age not doing injectables and going right to IVF if nothing else works, but I'm really hoping it doesn't go that far, because that means we will have been trying yet another year.

Re: Intro and a question.
Hi MrsTRAV - welcome to the board.
I'm glad you're finally getting to the bottom of things. You seem like you have a good plan. You have time to see how things go before deciding whether to do the injectible cycles or not. Hopefully it won't come to that.
RE: elevated problem. I have it to the same slight extent that you do. My RE told me that the slight elevation (30 is normal) is rarely the result of anything concerning and so didn't even bother testing me for a cause. She just prescribed me cabergoline and that has brought it down to the normal range.
Good luck!

Welcome, welcome, welcome!!!
I was diagnosed with having a very high prolactin level. It was confirmed by a MRI. Having high prolactin can totally screw with your ovulation. When my prolactin level was high it caused me to have a weak ovulation....somewhere around a 6 now it's 19.5. I take a half a pill at bedtime every night. It's called Bromocriptine generic name Paradol.
Glad to hear you have a plan. Good Luck
