...that the front page of TB has "Best baby carriers!" and a picture of the Bjorn? I feel like they should have done their homework a little bit better.
The Bjorn is a crotch dangler so when used frequently and/or for long periods of time it can cause hip dysplasia. The ergo and the Gemini are much better SSC choices.
I didn't, but yes it would bother me. I am someone who was oblivious to the dangers of "crotch danglers" until my LO was already here and we were gifted a Bjorn. I felt awful when I found out how bad it was.
Unfortunately, Bjorn and other big companies have a lot of money to market themselves on places like TB.
i was thinking the other day that I kind of want to see the What To Expect movie, but I know I'll be annoyed by stupid things like that.
Not at all. I thought the bjorn was the best (for the early months, anyway). After 4+ months is when I loved my ergo.
Not everyone buys the hype that you're going to do some sort of permanant damage to your kid because sometimes you take them for a 20 minute walk in the bjorn. It goes both ways. Many of the other carrier's websites have articles bashing the bjorn so they buy their carrier and use "fake" science to try to convince you the carrier is going to harm your kid.

This is what I figured as well. I tried the Moby but DD did not like it. I was given a Bjorn and she likes it. Now that she's bigger, it is uncomfortable so I'm checking out the ergo but I wouldn't call the Bjorn evil or anything.
Also, I don't put much weight on anything TB advertises. They posted the "best strollers" out there and not one of them I recognized nor were they under $300. Money talks.

Thank you! It's been bothering me too. I feel like I've done a fair bit of research (not just on competitors sites) about carriers and everything I've read said there are dangers or hip dysplasia (spelling?) or hollow spine with the crotch danglers. I think it's just the most common carrier and bjorn is putting out a lot of stuff about the importance of child wearing without bothering to change their design to match scientific findings. I think it's just one more thing parents and consumers need to be aware of and do their own research on.
Shoot, I'm sorry. I didn't intend to start an argument. I thought the Bjorns were pretty widely discouraged by pediatricians (including mine), and that TB just went with who paid the most advertising money vs what carriers are considered "best" by research.
I'm not judging anyone who owns/loves a Bjorn. I just thought with such a wide-reaching audience, it would be more responsible to mention other carriers first.
It's really not "fake science" to say those pieces of poo are terribly uncomfortable for both parent and baby.
I never found the bjorn uncomfortable with a baby under 20lbs. I had the one with extra lumbar support and found it incredibly comfortable.
In terms of comfort for baby--I am no child expert (I only have 2 kids), but when I put my kid in the moby/ring sling they had no issues letting me know via screaming that they weren't comfortable. In the bjorn LO was happy as a clam and took great naps. I can't imagine a baby falling asleep so peacefully if they were so terribly uncomfortable.
Also--for those of you who would never use a bjorn because of hip dysplasia, you better not swaddle your LO or use an exersaucer because those products can do the exact same thing.
Instead of saying one product is bad, maybe people should practice educating on using something the proper way (like if you want to wear your baby in a carrier for 4 hours straight a day, maybe something besides a bjorn should be used) instead of saying that you can't ever use that product.

Agreed.

It's like the rotating ad just to the right of the boards "Everyday Must Haves". I don't really consider those to be such, but I look at it knowing it is how TB makes the money to make the site worthwhile to them. It is also why I look discerningly at magazines advice on what we need in our diaper bag/nursery/registry.
OMG THANK YOU!
As a FTM who had NO CLUE whatsoever as to what I supposed to have (some people in my family think car seats are optional, just to give you an idea) and what I could do without, I ended up following those stupid 'must have lists' and buying so much crap and I regret it so much. I tell all my friends who don't have kids yet not to read those lists. I tell anybody who will listen that all a baby NEEDS is a boob, a safe place to sleep, and a clean butt. Everything else will take care of itself somehow.
I say that but then I'm the mom who buys every toy there is and way too many clothes......

I cannot get worked up about this.
