Success after IF

Toddlers who inhale their food

Do any of you have advice for dealing with a toddler who won't take the time to actually chew when they eat? DS just shovels it in and swallows it. I still cut up his food pretty small, but today lunch ended in him gagging and then projectile puking all.over.the.table. DH had to clean it while I dry-heaved.

I'm about ready to put him back on a baby food diet;)

Anyway - the only tip I've seen is to actually NOT cut up their pieces so small, so they have to bite it off and chew it a little more. Not sure if your LO is shoving in a lot or just not chewing thoroughly?

Thanks for the tip, maybe I'll try bigger pieces and watch him really well today. His problem seems to be a combination of putting too much in and not chewing. So maybe with bigger pieces he won't be able to get as many in and will need to chew...

  • I make Dillon take bites of things now. It slows him down with shoveling. Things that are small - like dried cranberries for instance, I have to give him a couple at a time. If I gave him a bowl, he would put them all in his mouth at one time.
