May 2012 Moms

Now this is interesting...for me, at least :)

Nearly went into full- on labor Saturday night--everything was lined up perfectly! Lost my mucous plug, bloody show, lots of crampy contrax, pressure, you name it, I had it! Was just about to call our doula to come over and help but DD1 started coughing (she has asthma/reactive airway disease so when she gets sick it's always a debacle every night til it's done) and didn't stop. All. Night. Long. We finally got some sleep around 6:45 AM, but what was interesting was that my labor backed off so I could take care of DD. I think the baby knew I wouldn't be able to focus 100% on her until I had some rest! Kind of fascinating (in a frustrating way at this point, ha) that our bodies can reverse a process sometimes when there are outside forces at play. Just thought I'd share. :)

  • I totally am interested in this too.  I was reading this whole article the other day on how you can be in full labor throes and it can completely halt if you feel threatened in some way.  It just goes back to instinct - when we were cave people.  If a woman was in the middle of labor and a predator showed up, the body was able to stop labor until the woman got to a safer place.  So I'm sure it's the same instinct for you... Your body knew that now wasn't the optimal time to deliver, so it stopped.  The body is so fascinating. :)

  • I read a really interesting article the other day about a midwife who theorizes prodromal labor is caused by mom not quite being ready for baby to come out. Either a fear or a need to get something done or who knows. She thinks that prodromal labor doesn't trigger into full labor until the mother is ready on all levels. I'm over simplifying it, but it makes sense. I'm trying to get in touch with my body and baby and tell them both I'm ready when they are.

I think I read that too.  And me too, I've been trying to tell my baby and my body that I'm READY.  Ha.

Lol, I started last night, but since I'm terrified of delivering on the 9th or 11th, I'm sure he'll wait until my OB says, time to induce, Sarah darlin'.

Wow, that is fascinating.  (And I've heard of animals actually pulling the new baby back in, too, when in danger.  Nuts!)
