Best abs exercises

I'm 8 months pp after DS2 and about 4-5 pounds away from my current goal. I'm looking for abs to incorporate into the work-out to minimize the hated pouch. What exercises have you found to be particularly effective?

I jog 3 miles 3 days a week and try to do a circuit with jump rope and lunges, squats, crunches, etc. another 2-3 times. I just feel like crunches aren't most effective since my legs are sore post workout and seem to be toning up but the tummy is neither. TIA!

Re: Best abs exercises

  • Nike has a good phone app called Nike Training Club which has a core workout that kills me. I haven't made it through that 15 minute series yet!

  • sparkpeople.com has a lot you can pick from , plus they give demos if you don't know how to do it.  I'm thinking the pouch may be here to stay and I finally have decided I'm ok with that....but i still continue to workout and do core work

  • I haven't gotten rid of the pouch yet either and DS is almost 15 months...I'm not sure it's ever going to really go away. BUT I will say  - regular crunches don't really do that much for me, but I have been doing these plank twists where you get in a plank pose and kind of twist/swing your leg over to the opposite side...I like it. It seems to really do something. Also, hold some 5 lb weights in your hands laying down and lift your legs up and down using only your lower abs (this helps a ton). Those are the two that I feel the most...and feel like they might actually be helping or working. Good luck!
