J has been getting cold in his eyes this week but hasn't shown any other symptoms. Yesterday his eyes got really swollen and red and he woke up this morning with them practically glued shut. He's developed a cough and he sounds congested and despite his smiley face and somewhat normal behavior you can tell he just doesn't feel well. He's also had diarrhea.
Im thinking it's just a cold but at what point should I call his dr? If it is just a cold doeshe need medicine? TIA
Eta: his eye lids were swollen and red. Not the eyeballs
Re: When to call pedi
My little man at 0-1-2
This! I would call to make sure it isn't pink eye or some other type of infection. Poor guy hope he gets better soon
Agree with PP. hope he is better soon.
I agree. Hope he feels better soon!
It was his eye lids not eye balls. I should have clarified that. It wouldn't be pink eye then would it?
And I'm done for the summer (yay!!!) so he'll be he with me anyway There's a DC that wants me to work there for the summer (it would be J's classroom too!) but I haven't decided if I'm going to take it or not. I have 2 weeks to decide
Really? I've never had experience in toddler pink eye so I wasn't sure. He acts fine, but his face shows he doesn't feel well
N just had something similar. I took him in, but the doc said he just had a cold. He gets green goop and matted eyes. Bacterial pink eye presents the same way though, so it never hurts to check. N has had this three times this year though and the doctor always tells us the same thing each time (we have to go though because he always needs a note for daycare...) He says, if he has a runny green nose and congestion, then the green eye goop is just a cold. If he doesn't have other cold symptoms, then it's probably bacterial and needs drops. He always tells us if it gets worse instead of better over the next two-three days then come back. It has always cleared up within 24-48 hours for us as the cold gets better. Sooo...if it were me and I thought he had a cold I would wait 24 hours and see if it got worse or better.
He definitely has the congestion and runny nose. If hes not better tomorrow I'll call his nurse and see if the dr needs to see him. If it is a cold they won't need give him anything will they?
No, nothing you can do about a cold except humidifier, baby vicks on his feet at night, suction nose, clean out eyes with artificial tears or breastmilk. Antibiotics won't do anything for a virus.
Ok thanks!
He woke up looking much better and his cough and congestion is pretty much gone. I'm guessing he just had a mild cold over the weekend. Thanks for the well wishes
