Recommend your converitble car seats please! I'm looking to buy them one at a time (we need 2. one for each car.) so that we aren't buying them at once. So what kind are you using and how much do you like it? Thanks ladies!
We have our three year old in a Britax Roundabout 50 (now I think they only have the 55). We love it! I will definitely buy another Britax after this one.

Go to the store and try them out in your car. We bought the Britax based upon the high recommendations, but it's giant and barely fits in our car rear facing. Our LO is little and we plan on leaving him rear facing a long time until he' s maxed out and we finally went and bought a different car to make it work. Try them out ahead of time.
We have a Britax Marathon and Roundabout and really like them but they are big. If you don't want to spend that much, the Evenflo Triumph gets great reviews. Check out albeebaby.com, they have good sales on last year's fabrics.
We keep our kids RFing until 2, so when DS2 turns 2 we will give him DS1's Britax seats and get two Graco Nautilus seats that convert from a convertible to a high backed booster to a non-backed booster.

if you can i'd keep lo in the infant seat as long as possible (it's so much easier getting them in & out of the car when they're asleep or snapping it into a stroller, etc). our first son outgrew the infant seat at 6 months & we bought a britax cs 70, it's well padded & has held up well over the last year. it was easy to install but it's gigantic & hardly fits rear facing in our 07 rav4. other than it's size by other complaint with it is the crotch belt...the buckle is super short & there's no way to adjust it so i'm always worried about pinching his chunky thighs in there (even our chicco infant carseat's crotch buckle has more slack.)

We have Alpha Omega Elites we bought at Costco for around $80. DD1 was brought home from the hospital in hers and now uses it as a booster. DD2 is now forward facing in hers. We plan on using them for the boys as well, once they outgrow their infant carrier seats.

When DS goes to a convertible, he'll use our Evenflo Titan Elite. It's a nice seat, but most LOs will outgrow it by height before they are 2 so it's not the best for ERF.
Re: Converitble carseats
We have a Britax Marathon for DS in both of cars. No complaints.
Ditto pp regarding trying them out in your car.
That said, we have an Evenflo Symphony and will probably get 2 more since it converts to a booster. We've been very happy with the seats.
