Pregnant after a Loss

bleeding at 7 weeks

I had a scary night... some TMI

Around 6:30 pm I was on the phone with my husband and felt a rush of wet in my undies. I didn't think much of it since I've been having a lot of watery discharge. Then, i felt it again and took a look. My undles and dress had blood all over them! I freaked out, crying, and got off the phone with hubby  (he is back in the US right now for work- we live overseas). I changed and headed straight to the hospital. I was so lucky that my doctor was still there for the day. I waited for about 30 minutes and stayed on the phone with my hubby and mom. By now, the bleeding was slowing down a lot. Finally, I got in to the doctor and he asked a few questions and then did an exam and ultrasound. I thought for sure everything was over, but the baby looked fine and had a heartbeat of 142! It measured 6w4d and I was 6w6d, but the doctor said that was fine. He found the very small pocket of blood near the sac, but not from the baby or sac. (From what I read online, I think it may actually be a subchorionic bleed). Everything else looked okay. He thinks it will most likely clear on its own and said he only thinks there is about a 20% of miscarriage with the strong heartbeat and small bleed. I got a progesterone shot and the rhogam for my negative blood. I am supposed to take it easy- no exercise, lifting, sex, etc, but can still go to work. I'll continue the progesterone suppositries and go back in a week.

It was very scary, but a relief to see the baby doing fine. The bleeding seems to have stopped today, and I am praying it stays that way! Ugh- so nerve wracking...

Thanks for listening!

  • Wow that does sound scary! I'm glad your baby is still doing alright, and that the doctor was positive. Hopefully no more scares!

  • So so so scary especially with hubby oversees!! So glad your doc was there and so happy the heartbeat was good. It's also good they found something else that could be causing it. I hope everything continues to go well for you from here on out!

That is scary! I'm really glad your Dr was at the hospital and was able to reassure you, also glad to hear that baby is doing well! Hopefully everything from here on out is uneventful.
  • I'm sorry you had such a frightening experience. I had almost exactly the same thing at 7 weeks with DD (she's now 2). It does sound like a subchorionic hematoma. It's great that you saw LO's heartbeat. Take it easy and try not to worry too much (it's tough I know). Hang in there!

That would be very scary. Hugs to you for having to go through all of that. I'm so happy your doctor was available and you've been able to find out what was going on. Super scary. Now it's time to relax and keep rested!

  • So sorry for this scare!

I had a very similar bleed early in this pregnancy at 5w5d. It was definitely a large subchorionic bleed and finally cleared on it's own, after a lot of uncertainty. Just to warn you, sometimes girls will have repeated episodes of bleeding before the hemorrhage goes away---I just had spotting but luckily no more gushing past that initial scare. And I'm still here, ticking away!

    Rest up and big hugs!

Thanks for your thoughts and sharing your experiences. I haven't had any bleeding since that night (a little brown spotting the next morning), so I am hoping it is over and things will be clearing up on my ultrasound on Saturday.

Hubby comes back in 9 days, and I am counting the minutes. It is stressful being alone for things like this!
