Just so that everyone knows--I am totally exstatic that we are pregnant and wouldn't trade it for the world. But I feel like venting/whining/throwing a temper tantrum..
I'm a rollercoaster junkie and now... No rollercoasters allowed until well after the new year! Or so I've heard. If anyone knows differently, you'd make me a very happy person. (I'm 9 weeks.)
Lunch meat -- There are so many opinions on yes, no and maybe on this subject that I don't know what to think. I love my Publix subs and now I'm not sure if indulging myself will hurt the baby which would kill me. Then others say Oh, it's not a problem, they do it anyways. Grrrr!
Re: Whiney vent (warning childish)
secretly, i was eating deli subs before i knew it was bad for me... oops
as for the rollercoasters, i'm bummed about that too!!! AND to top it all off, i'll be 20 weeks preggers ON MY 21 BIRTHDAY... waaaaaaahhhhhhh!
in any case, i wouldn't trade my bby for anything else in the world
I did some research on the whole rollercoaster thing before I went on a vacation with coasters. The only real risk is placental abruption. That's not going to be a concern until later in pregnancy. I went ahead and rode anyway. I don't think there's ever been a documented case of a rollercoaster causing a complication.
But full disclosure, my least favorite phrase is "why risk it?"
Uh...
All of this, exactly.
I still eat deli sandwiches!!!

I mean, if you follow it to its logical conclusion, it could apply to pretty much everything. We take the calculated risk to drive cars, cross the street, get CVS tests, take Zofran or Reglan... buying into the hysteria without some real science to explain the risk (which really, much bigger risk associated with driving than rollercoasters, in terms of documented cases of placental abruption) seems... well, hysterical.
I'm pretty sure that driving a car and getting on a roller coaster while pregnant are two entirely different matters.
Yes, you COULD crash in your car. There's a chance that could happen.
If you get on a roller coaster, its going to shake the sh*t out of you (and your fetus)....that is a certainty.
And maybe there are no documented cases because the miscarriages that could have potentially occurred because the mother got on a roller coaster because they (as most of us would) just wrote it off as a first trimester spontaneous miscarriage.
They don't look that close when you miscarry in the 1st tri, and there's no researcher in the world that would conduct an actual experiment to see if riding a roller coaster would damage/kill a baby in utero.
My doctor has always told me that if I didn't have a problem with lunch meat before then not to worry about it now. Just not to eat old lunch meat or lunch meat that has been laying around and stuff. I don't eat a lot of it to begin with, but if I want it I will have it.
As for the rollercoasters-it does suck, but it's well worth the sacrifice.

I went on it when I might have been like a day pregnant, it's not too bad. I ate subs last time, and unless they make me want to barf, I probably will again.
If you get motion sickness at all when not pregnant, you may want to skip the Hogwarts ride at Universal. I didn't find it very jarring and I think you could get away with riding it (assuming you aren't showing and they don't stop you from riding it) but it made me so sick. I couldn't ride anything afterwards for most of the day because I was queasy and had a massive headache. It's really a great ride but I don't think I'll ever get on it again. I can't even imagine riding it while pregnant. I'd probably get sick on the ride. I'd probably just hang out and drink frozen butter beer while everyone else rode it!
Lurking because I'm totally bored..
I can't say much for the roller coasters, but I will say that I, as well as many others (as I've read from posts since becoming pregnant) continue to eat lunch meat (I eat Jimmy John's multiple times a week), medium steaks, sushi, etc. and our babies our doing just fine. The main concern for lunch meat is the chance of listeria - it is MUCH more common to get listeria from fresh fruits and veggies than it is meat - take, for instance, the listeria melon outbreak from last summer.
I say, go grab a sub! You'll learn as you get farther along that everyone seems to have advice on something you should or shouldn't be doing while pregnant, so use common sense and do what you want.
You cannot be real.
