Today was DS's daycare day. He's gone twice/week for a while now, and we did not stop it while I'm on leave since DH is working ~80 hrs/week
So, this morning I dropped DS off, and DD and I went shopping. Why oh why did I not *know* when DS was a baby how easy it is to take a baby out?
I chose a window where I knew she would sleep, and ran some errands that could be ended quickly (eg, 5 minutes in the store to get the 'must haves' and go home if we had to).
Anyway, she slept the entire time. She was all snuggled up in her carseat, and when I went into Lowe's or Meijer, she rode in the basket of the cart. In Kohl's, I just pushed the stroller and used the handicapped restroom. Soooo easy, and it is fabulous to be able to go shopping while most kids are in school. Heavenly!
Seriously, when DS was a baby, I was too chicken to go anywhere with him alone. I wish someone would have told me "get out" and you might be surprised. So, provided the carseat doesn't send your baby into a screaming fit, enjoy a little "me" time pushing a baby...
Re: A random, PSA-ish, type posting...
I have a much easier time taking DD out, too, but I really think it was because DS was more needy. He didn't just chill in his carseat, unless the car was moving. He cried. A lot. So part of it is feeling experienced but I still think if DD was like DS we'd be staying in a lot more than we do!
Glad you had a fun time out!
I take DD everywhere. Have since she was born. I have things to do and groceries to buy so she has to go with me. The only thing I don't really like about taking her with me is that people try to stop us all the time to talk to the baby. I don't enjoy that. I am trying to get all my shopping done between feedings which does not leave extra time. I had one person chase me down after I told her we were in a hurry. Like, left her cart behind and chased us down.
Other than that, I don't mind shopping with the baby.

I just said something very similar tonight to DH. I was marveling at how much "braver" I am with DS2 than I was with DS1.
Here's a story though. One time when I did take DS1 out and visited Targe, I needed to use the restroom. Target's restrooms are really small here, as in lean over the toilet to shut the door, and so I used the handicap stall to get the car seat in with me. A woman, not handicapped mind you, ripped me when I came out telling me that wasn't for me and my baby. I was really shocked and for a minute I wondered if I was wrong, and then I was like, I had to pee, the other stalls weren't an option. I wasn't leaving my baby sitting outside the stall. I'm braver now, I would've told her so!
Crap, she'd rip me a new one when I have DS stand in the bathroom with me at 3.5. There's not enough room for him in a regular stall. I don't get it.

Yeah, you can't really appreciate how easy a baby is until you have another one! However, I will say it just plain wasn't as easy with my daughter because she was a much fussier baby than my son... mostly she would really only nap at home, and didn't take a pacifier so if she got fussy out and about, it was always an ordeal to try to get her to sleep and that resulted in many meltdowns in public places. Thankfully around 3 months old she figured out how to suck her thumb and was super easy after that!
I wish I had learned to use the moby or ergo earlier with my daughter, so she would have been used to falling asleep in there - my son always will and it's so nice to have that one thing that always works so I can go out and about and do most anything.
I just put my stuff in my car, take the cart back, then take the carseat out of the cart and carry it back to the car. Kind of a pain, but not that big of a deal since I usually make a point to park as close to a cart return as I can.
