Would you/have you check your own cervix?

Some doctors don't check until really late, some don't check at all. Are you "dying" of curiosity? Do you want to know what's going on down there? There are websites/blogs/MBs that give directions.

I can't reach up there to even try... I can barely wipe my own ass right now because I'm so big. But if I could reach it, I still wouldn't do it.

I wouldn't do it. I don't even plan to let my doctor donut until delivery unless he says I need it.

Um what? No. I'm fairly certain I wouldn't know what I would be trying to look for anyhow. Baby will come when baby comes.

No, I would feel so awful if I put myself into labor cus I was curious. Plus I don't think I could reach it, the DR says it's pretty high when he checked me last week. I have checked it when I had my IUD to make sure the strings were still where they should be but I never would while preg.

I also want to add in that I was a cervix checker when TTC, so I'm not against it, but as of now I just don't see the point.

I was too. I tried last night but it was so high and my reach sucks now, so I didn't feel a thing. I won't go checking again.

Just had to Google how one would even do this and upon review.... OH GOD!!! NO!!! NO!!!!!!! Apparently it feels like your lips puckered up for a kiss (ew) and you can slide a finger in there (super ew). If your water hasn't broken, you can feel the membranes and LO's head in there and if your water HAS broken, YOU CAN FEEL BABY'S HEAD. NO!!!!!

No and no...

I was 2cm/50% effaced with DS for 2 weeks before I went into labor

I got checked in the morning when I was pregnant with DD and was barely a 1 and not favorable and gave birth that afternoon

cervical checks mean nothing...could be closed and have a baby that day or could be 4cm and be that way for days

In order to check my own dilation, out of curiosity? No, I wouldn't and haven't. It's just so unnecessary and I wouldn't feel confident that I had even got an accurate "reading", so why get excited or frustrated (depending on what I think I feel) for nothing.

A woman in my MW group though checked her own recently. She's an RN and used cervical checks when trying to get pregnant, so has some know-how. She was getting bad BHs a few weeks back and decided to check. She knew her cervix was definitely changing, and ended up in the hospital for monitoring. She was fine, but in her case it was kinda good she could check.

I'm dying of curiosity, but I'd have no idea what I was doing if I tried. Plus, just because you are dilated doesn't mean that labor is coming soon. I'll just let my doctor tell me what's going on in there!

Hells no! & as PPs have said, there is no way I could reach it even if I wanted to. Peeing in a cup at the dr. office is nearly impossible, let alone anything more involved.

I checked my cervix when I was TTC and did find it useful to get to know the feel of my cervix at various points in my cycle.

That being said, no, I wouldn't check for dilation. I doubt I could reach now, but if I did, I'd be worried about rupturing something, infection, etc. It's not a reliable indicator of impending labour and there are no many other signs to go by. For me, going into labour is not as mysterious as trying to figure out when I might be ovulating.
