2nd Trimester

Starting to get concerned

I know I have posted before about movement and flutters but I am starting to get concerned that I am feeling nothing.  I don't feel pregnant in the least bit.  I had no first trimester symptoms at all!  Other than a fat belly and a listen to the HB a few weeks ago, I have nothing to go on.  I don't even look pregnant either.  I look like I have a gigantic beer belly with multiple roles of fat that is still soft and squishy.  I would love to know if this is normal or am I just over reacting.  I think my being overweight may have something to do with why I don't feel anything?  Everyone rolls their eyes when I express my concerns and I wish someone would take me seriously.

Re: Starting to get concerned

  • You're really really early to be feeling anything...it also looks like you fall into that exact stage between the first-trimester symptoms and the third-trimester discomforts. Everyone has a little freak out period when their morning sickness disappears but they don't "look" pregnant yet. Don't worry about it. You'll be feeling it and looking pregnant soon enough. Just enjoy this downtime!

  • I haven't felt movement either. And, some days I look more pregnant than others depending on how bloated I am. Hang in there! I'm sure we'll get there soon enough.

  • Is this your first? It's very early, if so.

I felt DS at 17.5 weeks (my first) and some people don't until well past 20, even 22ish weeks. The first movements are very few and far between, anyway. You sometimes only feel them once every few days.

  • I was about 20 weeks before I started feeling anything... Even then it wasn't consistent. I still don't feel him a whole lot.
  • Your weight has nothing to do with when you'll feel internal movements. Your uterus is not lined with fat no matter how big you are. I really don't understand this misconception, but it's very common. 70 or 700 pounds, you'll feel your baby moving within the same timeframe that is average for FTMs if you are a FTM.

I am 5'10 and weighed 313 pre pregnancy. Lost 13 pounds, finally starting to gain some back. This is my first baby and I started feeling little squirms during week 18, and MUCH to my surprise, I was feeling kicks externally in week 22. External movement is what can be affected by your size, so I expected at least another month or so to go by before I would be able to feel movement with my hand.

This is me.  I'm only now feeling her daily.  At 16 weeks, I felt "flutters" but I'm pretty sure it was just gas - especially after I really started feeling her.

  • I didn't feel any movement until 20 weeks and I didn't feel consistent movement until 22 weeks.  I know it's hard not to worry but I think everything is fine.  If your really worried, call your doctor to ease your mind.

  • I'm 21 weeks tomorrow and only still feel things here and there. 16w is SO early, you're okay :)

  • OBs don't expect consistent daily movement until almost 26 weeks.  So if you aren't feeling baby move in another 10 weeks, you can start to worry, but even if you had never felt LO at all yet, it wouldn't be a concern.

  • I didn't feel anything until around week 20... Even now at 24 weeks, I feel her a few times a day, but there are times I go 12 or more hours without feeling anything.  At 16 weeks, I think you're panicking a little.  If you're that concerned, bring it up at your next doctor's appointment, but I'm confident they'll tell you it's normal.

  • I just felt her for the first time last week -- at 20 weeks pregnant.  People are still telling me I don't look pregnant.  So I don't think it's anything to worry about.  I've gained the "normal" amount of weight, I'm just carrying a little less in my stomach area.  And at my 20 week ultrasound on Thursday, the tech told me I have an anterior placenta -- another reason that I didn't feel her kick until last week.  I still only feel her sporadically.

  • And except for minor aches and pains, I haven't "felt" pregnant since the first tri.  I'm trying to enjoy it before I get all that well-meaning but unwanted baby advice when people can finally tell that I look pregnant.

  • I didn't start feeling my flutters until like 17-18 weeks & then its really hard to tell between gas or hunger LOL Probably because its my first child... but yea. I know how you feel. I had a horrible first trimester, every symptom in the book. So as nerve racking as it can be just be grateful you've had it easy so far, relax, and don't stress because its bad for the baby. The not showing thing is common especially if its your first child [or so I have read]. I started to show early but I was underweight when I got pregnant. Give it a few weeks and I'm sure you'll start getting the little signs your looking for =]

  • My belly got harder at 18w. I still have a B-shaped belly.  I felt movement for the first time at 20w..... I waited all day today to feel more kicks and was sad when I never felt any... I guess it's not consistent yet!

  • Don't be concerned. I was 20 weeks before I started to think I MIGHT be feeling baby. It wasn't for a week or so later that I was feeling confident the flutters were baby. 28 weeks (tomorrow) and I feel her super strong everyday.

  • I am only 16 weeks as well and I don't feel pregnant at all. Except my nose is always stuffed up. I hear it's normal not to feel anything  until at least 20 weeks.

    Lurking.

I am also overweight. However, I popped (noticeable belly) at 17 weeks, and if I recall correctly, that's also about when I felt my first taps. I never felt flutters. Started feeling hiccups probably at about 20 weeks. By 20 or 24 weeks, I was pregnant-looking to strangers.

You're still early for a first pregnancy.

I was about 16W when I felt my first flutters. Now at almost 22W I feel kicks and hiccups (they are constant and all in a row).  I am a FTM but I have friends and cousins who have had kids and have told me what I should be feeling.  I couldn't tell the difference between the gas bubbles and flutters during week 15 but after talking to my friends/family who have had children recently they gave me a pretty good idea of what I was feeling.

For the first time yesterday my DH felt the baby move.  It was awesome.  I have been able to tell from the outside for the past week or so but having him feel it was awesome.
