Breastfeeding

1 day old and eating constantly

Seeing as I'm stuck in my recliner with a new babe on my boob, I thought I'd ask you ladies!  I had my little girl last night at 6pm - for the first 12 hours she would nurse for 15 minutes or so and then relax or sleep for about 2 hours.  Starting this morning, she will nurse for 30-60 minutes and only wants to sleep without being attached to me for 20-30 minutes.  I'm not sore or bothered by her eating this frequently, is it okay to keep letting her nurse that often?

  • Of course it is. Why wouldn't it be?

Trust your mama instincts. She has no wants right now, only needs. If she news to nurse constantly, do it.

  • Yes this is what brings your milk in. Keep her on the boob as much as she wants

  • To third the advice, the more boob time the better. She has a tiny little stomach, and she's working to bring in your milk supply. Also, she hasn't been put down once in the last 9 months, so she's probably not keen on the idea now. Newborns like to snuggle.
  • It's totally normal.  Keep it up whenever and for however long she wants to nurse to keep up your supply.  Good job.
  • Of course it is okay. Let her nurse as much as she wants to. The more the better.

  • Absolutely.

I always nursed DS on demand. I had killer milk supply and I never had to worry about clock watching with this method. GL!!

  • Thanks ladies! I figured it was fine, she's still at it, but we're doing great :)

  • Glad to hear you're doing well and congrats!!   My LO dis this and my milk came in great and my I believe that's why my engorement wasn't has horrible as others (she was a good feeder throughout it). It's been great for supply as well.  However, unfortunately she still continues to feed this way on a lot of nights...   And it is nearly impossible for me to stY awake when she has 30-40 min feedings every hour... Throughout the night...

  • She will be helping to bring your milk in. Since it is not in yet she will likely be a bit hungry. This time around my milk came in around the 36 hour mark so hang in there.  Once your milk is in if she is still rooting like that make sure its not that her tummy is just upset form adjusting to milk.  They will act hungry when they have an upset stomach, and they try to use nursing as a soothing mechanism.  GL!
