Toddlers: 24 Months+

It's too early!!!

We transitioned DD to a toddler bed almost 2 months ago without any problems during naps or going to bed at night and we would still have to wake her to get ready for the day.  Starting about 2-3 weeks ago she started waking up early. I thought she was just going through a phase, but nope! I'm going to go get one of hose childproof door handle things today because she knows how to open the door, but I don't know what to do about the early waking???  Any suggestions?  Her room is at the front of the house, and while it's a very quiet neighborhood, our neighbor across the street just started working again and has a huge/loud truck that I think is what's waking her, but she's even waking early now on the weekends.  She is still taking her regular 2 hour nap and her bedtime hasn't changed, so I don't know what to do. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • What I've heard on this is the OK to wake clocks work wonders. However, I got one and my kids immediately broke it. Grrrr.

  • We're having the same issue. We moved bedtime up by a half hour and now she sleeps about 15 minutes later than the early wake up in the mornings. Still not ideal because I am NOT a morning person, but she's less cranky with that extra 45 minutes of sleep again.

  • I'm sorry.  I can totally relate.  When DS was in the crib, he slept from 9-9 and napped from 2-4 or 5.  When we put him in the toddler bed, all of a sudden he was sleeping 9-6 or 7 and no more naps.  It sucked.  He's been in his toddler bed for almost a year now.  The bad news is, he still doesn't nap and doesn't sleep till 9 anymore.  The good news is, black out curtains and a clock in his room helped.  He can read a digital clock so we told him he can't come out of his room until 7.  Now, instead of waking up at 6, he wakes up closer to 8.

. I am.  I tried to get her to lay down with me and she will for like 2 minutes and then she's telling me to wake up.
