I wish I had been able to call-- they told him his total sperm is "700 in 50 million." I've never seen it measured that way-- what does that mean?!? Everything I've read/heard reports sperm count in #s per mL, not per 50 million.
Most importantly, however, MH doesn't have a good % of normal sperm. He has only 10% that are not abnormal (80% have abnormal heads and 10% have abnormal tails).
I have a feeling this has been the issue; I can only hope that the abnormal head thing can be easily fixed by changing underwear or adding some vitamins.
Re: SA results are back...
I can't help you with an explanation..as you know I am married to a big chicken who has not had an SA..yet.
But I have a feeling that my dh will have a similar report. I don't know why I just feel like he might have enough just not enough "good" ones.
I will be curious to know what they prescribe to "fix" the problem. Good Luck!
Maybe you can explain to DH that if the test happens, you can fix the issue sooner. Talk about wasting money, energy, time, etc. Not to mention, the way the drugs make our bodies feel like crap!
I'll let you know what the doc recommends-- maybe you can have DH try those things and if the issue is him, maybe it will do the trick.

I am curious too!
Everything I'm reading online says that up to 85% abnormal sperm is okay. MH has 90% abnormal sperm.
Some sites say that there are some reasons for abnormal sperm that can be fixed and then others say that there is no fix and that the number of "solutions" out there is proof of that (if there was something that could fix the abnormalities, then everyone would just use that one thing).
I'm having a really hard time not panicking and keeping all this info from MH.

I told my dh about your dh's test results and he AGREED TO GET AN SA!!!!!!! I can't believe it! Thank you SO much for posting those results!
Well this has just made my day! I am over the moon that your DH has agreed to this! I hope it clears things up and makes it work out for you.
From what I have read online (they should NEVER close doctor's offices on the weekends because getting test results on a Friday afternoon BITES!), when there is a lower-than-normal # of normal sperm, a lot of recommendations are to go straight to IVF or ICSI because that's the only way to get a good outcome without waiting for years.
My sister said that she thought there was a place in New Hampshire that offered one free IVF cycle. So I'm going to look into that while I wait until we can call the docs on Monday...

My husband has low morphology, and your numbers sound okay to me, based on our experience. My husband's urologist says that morphology is what they know the least about and there is a wide range of what is considered acceptable.
What did your doctor say when you got the results? Did he indicate that you should be worried? The nurse who gave me the results said right away that DH's numbers were not normal and very low. Unfortunately, they waited until after my first IUI to tell me DH needed to go to a urologist.
I know it is stressful, but in my completely inexpert opinion, I think you may be fine wiht those numbers. Good luck!
And llama -- yay for your husband agreeeing to an SA!
I think you need to get your hands on written test results. You should get count, motility and morphology. I don't think that morph. sounds that bad. And, my original RE would do IUI if we had at least 5 million total motile sperm, so try not to get ahead of yourself.
Unfortunately, from what I know there are no easy fixes for MFI. A uro. may have him run b/w to check hormone levels, and will check for physical obstructions, but varicocele surgery is not easy and is not a guarantee. After doing a lot of research, I started my H on CoQ10 and a multi-vitamin several months ago, and his last SA came back better than ever, but I can't necessarily attribute it to that because he's also been eating better and exercising more.
Good luck!

I'm not sure what "700 in 50 million" means either. I don't think your DH's abnormal % is all that bad (we had 0% morph, but my DH also has a crazy high overall count of over 500 million). Our doc wasn't too concerned since we had already decided to do IVF with ICSI, and they weren't concerned about being able to find a couple of good ones with over 500 million sperm. I think if we were to keep trying naturally or with IUI's then the RE would have put more emphasis in trying to increase our morph %, but right now DH is only on a multi-vitamin.
Good luck with breaking the news to your DH, let us know how it goes.

YAY Llama! Glad he decided to do it!
To the OP...sounds like might need more clarification. I am also curious how they plan to address the issue. GL!
Ticker warning.
Yaaaayyyyyyyyyy!!! I'm so glad he finally agreed to a SA, Llama.
My Blog

Llama, your news made my uncertain news WAY easier to bear! I am over the moon that your DH has agreed. If it helps, tell him MH was in the Army, so if a macho soldier can submit his little soldiers to get tested, then anyone can. (Well, maybe not a marine-- those guys are intense! LOL)
I sometimes wonder if MH maybe was exposed to something in Iraq or Bosnia (or even here in the USA during his training) that may be messing with his junk. It's probably just luck of the draw and/or all the crappy food and garbage he ate and drank as a kid because his parents were... not the best parents, I'll say.
Anyhow, we'll hopefully know more on Monday when we can actually talk to a doctor and get some questions answered.
Thanks, Ladies! And Llama, keep us in the loop re: DH's SA!

I don't know much about your total number results but I think 10% morph is considered good. I actually just talked to my nurse today and got my H's results and his morph is only 3% and they want it over 7%. All his other numbers were good though. From what I've read low morph isn't always a big issue especially if your count is high.
