I'm doing the lap!

I met with my doctor today, and while I think he would like for us to do one more round of treatment before doing a laparoscopy, he said he didn't disagree with the option of a lap either.  It is scheduled for next Friday.

I've never been intubated. I'm nervous, and aware that the likelihood of finding anything is very low. But insurance is paying for it and I've also read where other doctors feel that you can't truly diagnose a woman with unexplained infertility until a lap has been done. I also continue to have light spotting about 4-5 days after ovulation that lasts until my period starts and I desperately want to find the source.

Anyone want to share laparoscopy stories? advice?

Re: I'm doing the lap!

  • I had a lap done a couple of years ago. When I had it, I also had a few other things done as well. I had the surgery done on a Thursday and I went back to work on Monday half day and Tuesday half day as well. I probably would have had a quicker recovery if I did not have adhesions and such removed as well. I hope this helps and good luck.

  • Depending on what they find will determine your recovery. If they discovery nothing then I think you will be 100% within a couple days. If there is a lot of scar tissue that needs to be removed then it will take a little longer to feel fully recovered. I would just make sure to fully relax for a couple days after. I hope this will provide you with answers. GL!

  • I have lap #2 scheduled for next Thursday.

My first lap was to remove what my doc thought was a cyst, but was actually a tumor. While he was in there he found stage III endo, adhesions and my left ovary and tube was adhered to my pelvic wall.  I had no symptoms whatsoever.

The surgery itself was no big deal. Just sore and bloated for a few days. A week post op I was 95%. I'm not at all worried about this one, only what he might find. I have a ton of pain, all the time, so I have a feeling it will be even worse than it was then.

    Good luck!
