Baby Showers

Games

My Mom & MIL are planning my shower and know I'm not a fan of games.  They're asking me for suggestions, but I'm stumped!  Any showers you've been to that have a neat, quick game or two that stood out?  Thanks!

Re: Games

  • This isn't a game, but my friend had an awesome shower where we all designed/painted solid onesies for the baby. It was fun and mom can use them,

  • My host had a game during present opening time, I didn't know about it at the time, where people wrote down stuff I said while opening the gifts to make into a story.  Some of the stories that came out of it were really freaking hilarious and it kept people busy so they weren't sitting there bored.  Best story won a prize.
  • Maybe gift bingo? You give guests blank bingo cards and they fill them in with gifts they think you will receive. You can play traditional bingo or "blackout". Another game is the clothes pin game. Each guest gets a clothes pin as they enter. They are told not to say a certain word, maybe "baby" or LOs name. If they say the forbidden word, someone can take their clothes pin. You could also try a guessing jar filled with m &ms or some other candy. You could also hve a calendar with your ue date marked. Have guests guess the date and time of LOs birth. Closest person is mailed a prize. Good luck!

  • A popular game for any shower in my area lately is the timer game.  Hosts set a timer at a random time and when it goes off, whose ever gift is being opened gets a prize. Simple.

The only one I didn't mind was gift bingo.  It keeps people paying attention to gifts and isn't anything super involved.  If people don't want to participate, they don't have to.  Give out a few decent prizes and it's not too bad.

  • There is only one that I have played that didn't completely suck.

Every guest has a name of a famous mother on their back, which they have not seen.  They can ask yes or no questions to the other guests, and the first one to guess who their person is wins.  Examples - Carol Brady, Octomom, Kate Gosselin, Michelle Obama, etc.

  • My mom picked ducks as my shower theme (I think she really just wanted to knit a bunch of ducky stuff) and something quick she is planning is having everyone write down as many things to do with ducks (ie could be a duck type (mallard), cartoon character (scrooge mcduck), saying (just ducky)...the person with the most things written down is the winner.

  • I like the bingo idea for when the presents are opened. It keeps people interested and is pretty easy.

There's always the thing where when people arrive they are given a necklace (can be just ribbon, or beads or even little clothespins) and told not to say two or three words, like "baby" or the mom's name, and if they hear someone else say those words they can take the beads from that person and whoever has the most beads at the end wins a prize.

I like both of these because people don't really have to play if they don't want to so there is no pressure but those who are more competetive can still enjoy.

Gift Bingo has become the game we can't play at showers anymore. My grandma straight up cheats. She'll buy a bunch of things and then put them all in a line so she gets bingo right away. pfft!

I was just reading a magazine and they had a "price is right" game with baby items. i thought it was a good idea for something short.

    Hahahaha! This cracked me up!

  • One game that doesn't take a lot of thought is passing around the tray of baby related items.  You would walk around with a tray of maybe 20 small items on it.  The hostess tells everyone to look closely because they will need to use their memories (that is ALL she says).  You let everyone take a quick look (about 30 seconds or less) and then walk out of the room with the tray (and stay out).  The guests are then asked to write down answers to questions and they are all about YOU.  What color shoes were you wearing, were you wearing earrings, how many, rings, how many, was your hair up, down, necklace, what color was your top/bottom, etc.  Not only is it an easy game but the guests get a kick out of it since most if not all were trying to remember exactly what was on the tray!  Plus, you get all the items on the tray.  lol

I hate shower games (this applies to wedding, baby, and bachelorette). Mainly I hate them because I don't like feeling stupid in front of others or being the center of attention. I am praying that I can avoid games at my own shower. That being said, I can tolerate gift bingo (you can do preprinted cards so no one cheats), or where you wrap up baby items (about 10) and people pass them around and write down their guesses. Most right wins.  I also have played one with nursery rhymes where you print part of the words and people have to try and name the title of the rhyme.
