Sanitizing Bottles with Bleach

So I just found out they do this at my day care and it instantly freaked me out!!! She says she just uses a few drops in a lot of water, but still.... I'm considering just washing/packing his bottles each day so I don't have to worry about it. Any one heard of this before? Is it normal/safe? I'm also going to check with my pediatrician today but I thought I'd ask on here too.

    Crazy!! Who knew?? Seriously, the thought alone sounds so dangerous. I figured they must know what they're doing since they've done it for so long, but it still scared me. Thanks for showing me this link.

    This is not dangerous.  I haven't done it, but I know of people that do.

    I honestly never even understood the point of sanitizing outside of the dishwasher. I have always put my bottles in the dishwasher and used natural detergent. It's the same thing.

    I totally agree...we always just use our dishwasher, but they can't at the day care because they don't have a dishwasher that is easy to get to while they're watching the 20 + kids. So instead they use the bleach water - it's probably best they do sanitize since there are so many little kids - bound to be lots of germs.

    I'm jealous your daycare cleans the bottles!!!!

    Ours just pops the lid back on and sends them home!

    Some people just don't have dishwashers, like us.  We still don't sanitize daily though, just wash with really hot water.
