I've had a sore throat for the past three days. That, and my nose is really stuffed up. Last night I couldn't get to sleep at all. Of course DH was out in ten minutes. My nose was so stuffed up that I had to breathe through my mouth, which made my throat hurt more. I sat up to fix my pillow and started coughing. I coughed so much I peed myself a little. DH woke up and asked if I was okay. I said no, I just peed myself and I can't sleep. He said "Oh, okay baby," and rolled over and went back to sleep! I got up and took a shower, then filled the bath and sat in there for a while just breathing in the steam. It helped a little. I was at least able to fall asleep afterwards. (We're usually in bed by about 8:30. This was after midnight.) I kept waking up about every hour and a half having to blow my nose. This morning I felt like dog poop. I was getting into my car to go to work, and I started coughing again. This time I threw up. Thankfully I was able to get out of my car before I did. It was at this point I decided to go to medical. (On a military base so we just go in to "sick call.") DH drove me in. After waiting for almost two hours, they gave my antibiotics and psudophedrine and sent me on my way.
I've been at work since 8:30 and it feels like I've been here for a week. The psudophedrine hasn't helped at all, I keep having to blow my nose about every 2 minutes, and my head is absolutely killing me. I have so much pressure in my sinus cavities. My whole body hurts.
All I can say right now is thank God it's Friday. If this was only a Tuesday I'd be a very unhappy camper right now. I'm unhappy anyways, but at least it's Friday. I'm going straight to bed when I get home. DH can clean the house and make dinner, I'm not doing anything.
Re: Feeling horrible today... (rant)
My trick to sleeping when I have a cold is placing a cool steam humidifier right by my side of the bed. I turn it on and aim the steam puff directly at my face. I keep tissue, water and coughdrops on the nightstand and sleep with a coughdrop tucked in my cheek. The steam keeps me from getting horrible dry sore throats while sleeping so I don't wake up with coughing fits nearly as much. It sounds kinda kooky, but it really really helps. I do this for allergies or cold (anything that stuffs up my nose and makes me need to breath through my mouth at night) and I sleep so much better.
Sorry you're so miserable. I hope you feel much better very soon.
I need to get a humidifier. I've been thinking about getting one anyways, but lately I've been wanting one. Especially last night! I tried the cough drop trick last night but it didn't help much. The glass of water I always keep by my bed anyways.
I'm definitely going to get a humidifier though, Just being in the bath and breathing in the steam in there helped a lot. Thank you for the advice and taking the time to read my pathetic-ness. lol
Sounds like me for the past three days. I got a z-pack this morning (yay antibiotics!) and finally don't feel like my face is going to explode.
I second keeping the tissues, cough drops, and some water right next to the bed. We got a humidifier and got the Vicks menthol tabs that went with it. It helps me breathe a tiny bit better...
But for right now it's just a waiting game - I got the trifecta of infections: a double ear infection, AND a sinus infection. Awesome.
