Peeing my pants...

So... at first I thought my water broke (a few weeks back) but now it keeps happening just in smaller amounts of fluid (not huge like the first time). I honestly think I'm losing control of my bladder. It happens about 10 seconds after I go pee. So I've tried sitting a little longer to make sure its all out but it seems to happen about 10 seconds after I stand up... so no matter how long I sit on the toilet it doesn't matter. It goes through my pantyliner and soaks my underwear. :( I have to go home at lunch to change. It feels more like discharge (in the area its coming out) but its super watery and clear (not thick or anything like discharge). So I started wearing thicker pads (I refuse to buy depends or whatever though).I cried the other day because it's so embarrassing.

Is this happening to anyone else? Does this go away after the baby is born? Any concern to call my Dr? Is it because the baby is putting so much pressure on my bladder?

Re: Peeing my pants...

  • If it is happening a lot, I would call my OB, I have only pee'd my pants once, but I had to pee and i sneezed lol and then whoops! so I am pretty sure mine was just pee... But I wsa told if your discharge is watery, you need to inform your OB.. so to be safe I would call either your OB or L/D and get checked out.. :) and no need to be embarrassed, you obviously have a baby bump (your pic) so its not like you are just some random girl peeing her pants, your pregnant.. no worries :)

  • I would call your OB. I made it through my first pregnancy and this one so far without any bladder mishaps. I almost lost it a few times postpartum when DH would make me laugh though. If anything they will be able to confirm it is just urine and maybe give you suggestions on strengthening your pelvic floor. Maybe you are having more trouble because you are petite? I'm also pretty small though.

I'm sorry you're dealing with that :(  Try not to be embarassed, you're pregnant and I'm pretty sure this stuff is normal.  I would call and mention it to your OB though, they might want to check it make sure it's not fluid.

  • It's totally normal to leak pee.  My LO kicks me in the bladder constantly.  WHen you empty your bladder, wait a few seconds, then lean forward.  Rather than a pantiliner, try poise pads-- they are made for dribbles and have odor blockers.  Yes, you will return to normal after delivery-- do your kegels now and after birth.  The only time I peed myself after delivery was during a bad flu bug-- the vomiting spasm was so strong I couldn't counteract the muscle contractions.

  • I'd say it happens about... 3x a week at least, over the past few weeks. It's only after I go pee though, no other time. Not even when I sneeze or laugh. I'm going to call my OB just to be safe. Thanks ladies!

My baby prep teacher told us that this is very common.  A tip she gave was leaning forward while still on the toilet and lifting the bump up from underneath.  This might help lift the baby off the bladder (if baby is there it maybe creating a daming effect kinda like a kink in a garden hose).  Maybe this will help!

  • Leaning forward definitely helped me with this issue! It was happening to me almost daily but I was positive it was urine. Sometimes when I wipe too, I press up a bit and some more will come out. Fun stuff, I know.

  • Thanks for the tips ladies! I will lean forward!!!

I called my Dr and the nurse said it's most likely the baby's head putting pressure on my bladder and it's normal. But if it happens at other times (not only after I pee) to go in to test it's not leaking amniotic fluid.
