What's in LO's sippy cup?

I am having the hardest time trying to give Dylan a sippy cup! He just won't take it. grrrrr! lol.

I've tried, 3 different straw cups and 2 different sippy's. I've tried water, room temp water, diluted apple juice, room temperature diluted apple juice... he just won't take it. What's your secret for getting LO to take a sippy?

Haven't figured it out yet, but let me know if you do! Maybe some LOs just aren't ready yet!

  • I give dd water.. And for breakfast diluted (very diluted lol) orange juice. That's all she's had in it. I've actually never given her apple juice , I'll have to try some :)

  • I only give water (I tried formula, but she was not amused) and she loves it now, but it took her a while to get there. I started offering it regularly at 6 months and she only figured out the cup and decided that she liked the taste of water about a month ago. Maybe Dylan just needs some more time to get used to it?

  • I'm using the Tommee Tippee sippy cup. I just took the valve out so pretty much no sucking is required. I gave it to Dylan and he seemed to like the diluted apple juice. Now that he's tried it and knows it's in there I've put the valve back in... still no success with the valve! Bah!

  • I give DD water.  We tried the sippy around 7 months and she wanted nothing to do with it.  Like you, I tried all different kinds.  I gave up and tried about 3 weeks ago.  She now loves the sippy!  Maybe wait a little longer and try again.

  • Water. No way I'm putting BM or formula in there when she just likes to take a sip and then drop it on the floor.

She likes to put stuff in her mouth, so I think that's why she likes the sippy. Just something else to chew on.

  • Water in a sippy cup.

BM only comes from my boob or a bottle.

  • Water.  DD just figured out the Zoli straw cup (only one she has figured out) in the past week.  She doesn't "get" sippys at all (could be that she never took a bottle?)  She still only takes a couple of sips.  They'll get there.

  • Just water but DD has noooo interest in it whatsoever. I'm not even sure she knows how it works. We keep trying and I'm sure she'll get. She's got 3 months to figure it out...LOL.

Water, or a bit of diluted prune juice if she needs it Wink

I also used a bunch of different sippies before I found one that she likes. We use this Nuby sippy and I swear its a miracle. She also *sometimes* understands a straw, but not consistently.

  • Water, I tried milk a few months ago and he wanted no part in that, but he might be more accepting now.

    Nick loves these

Not sure if it's because they are Timmy's cup image

But we typically give him a different kind

  • We dont use his sippy cup yet but he drinks water out of a regular cup several times a day. Im not a juice fan, so Ill avoid that as long as possible.

This!  H2O mostly the one time I did not have a bottle on hand, but had a travel pouch of formula, and tried it in the sippy a big failure.

I am going to go straight from water to cows milk in the sippy for the 16-18oz of milk they are supposed to get when toddlers and H2O for the rest.  As a PP said, formula/milk comes from a bottle or boob.

We have to avoid fruits, sugars, and juices because it gives DD diahhrea when she is on her iron supplements.

DS loves his sippy, but it took a while.  Sometimes he has water, but mostly it's half water, half apple juice and his iron medicine mixed in.   The pedi doesn't like to give juice, but said the iron drops need to be in something with Vitamin C to be properly absorbed.

  • So far just water and he's only interested in chewing on the cup. He will drink water out of a regular cup or water bottle though.

  • Water, but she will NOT drink it unless it is super cold, so I always make sure I have a sippy in the fridge.  She still doesn't drink it on  her own, but at least this way she is actually drinking with help. If the water is room temp, she turns her head away and refuses after the first sip.

We give dd cold water which she has finally started drinking.  She didn't want anything to do with a sippy cup until a couple of weeks ago.  I would say just keep offering the cup at meal times.
