We went in for Lexi's 2 week check up yesterday and her doctor prescribed PolyViSol (a multivitamin) and said it was because she is EBF. I remember the same thing being prescribed to DS1 who was FF. I remember having the hardest time getting him to take it. My thinking was, if breastfeeding is best, and women have been doing it since the beginning of time, what's the need for a multivitamin? She's not jaundiced at all anymore, all her blood tests came back perfect, she BFs like a pro and is gaining weight really well. I didn't think to ask the doctor why it was necessary, but was wondering if anyone else is giving it their LO.
Re: Dr prescribed PolyViSol- anyone else?
ALSO!!!! They are made by Enfamil - so if you call the Enfamil people and ask them, they will send you coupons for the vitamins via snail mail!

I actually just got back from the drug store picking it up. Our doc recommended TriViSol...which is very similar, but has a few less vitamins in it. TriViSol has A, C, and D which are not transmitted through breastmilk. Our doc say PolyViSol is fine, but it has extra nutrients that infants will just pee/poop out so she said start with TriViSol.
Not looking forward to trying it...it does say on the box you can mix it with formula, so we might try it in a breastmilk bottle from pumped milk if the eye dropper doesn't go well...
good luck!
