August 2012 Moms

STM's, are your Braxton Hicks more intense?

So this morning at about 5:15 I woke up with a) a 12 pound cat snoring on the pillow next to me, b) a gas bubble the size of said cat in my belly, and c) dull, steady pain in my back and a tight abdomen.  I kicked out the cat, took some Gas-X and water, and laid back down.  For the next hour and a half, I had pretty regular contractions, though none were really painful.  I could feel (and do still) LO moving around, and I have had no leaking, so I'm chalking it up to possible minor dehydration and over activity.

Any other second time+ moms having more intense Braxton Hicks this time?  I was almost to the point of calling the on-call nurse, but I'm hoping lots of water and staying off my feet will help.

  • I never felt one with my son! This time around I've been feeling them since about 20 weeks. I find drinking insane amounts of water, peeing frequently, and resting my feet from time to time helps.

  • Yes!!! I didn't feel BH with DS, and if I did...I didn't realize that's what they were.

This LO gives me some back contractions every so often. Painful, sometimes. But never consistent. But I feel ya....

  • I had them every once in awhile with DS and so far this time around I don't think I've noticed much. But there is still plenty of time for me to get them!

  • I don't remember having many BH with either of the girls, but this time around I have them A LOT.  Off and on all day every day it seems.

  • I didn't know what BH felt like with my son until the doctor pointed out that I was having one two days before I delivered!  I knew that I had felt that feeling before, but not often.  This time around, I've been feeling them for a few weeks now--but not regularly at all.  I do feel like maybe they're stronger, but it might all be in my head.
  • I've definitely been noticing them more this time around...probably because I actually know what they are now! None of them have been painful, just noticeable.

  • Mine are actually less intense so far. I haven't really had that many and the ones I have had have been very mild and short.

  • I do not remember ever having them with DD but with this baby I get them and they are intense. I asked my doctor twice and thu said not to worry unless leaking, bleeding or 6 or more in an hour....

Definitely. Each pregnancy I feel them more and this pregnancy is holding the record. I started feeling them at 14.5w and getting 6+ an hour and were sometimes accompanied with cramps and then eventually actual pain. I occasionally have reeeeally strong ones but most often they are noticeable and very frequent. I've been on pelvic rest since 15w for them plus the cramps.

I had them often with my DD after 30 weeks or so and only when doing strenuous activity. This time, I started getting them around 22 weeks and, again, upturning strenuous activity or if I allow myself to get dehydrated. I'm a nurse and I really notice them frequently and almost to the point of discomfort when I'm at work (read: strenuous activity and dehydration for 12+ hours).  I actually did call the on-call MD last weekend bc of the frequency and intensity. She basically said to hydrate well and try to put my feet up.

Exactly me too!  They make my belly sore too.  Thank Goodness they only last a few seconds.

  • I just started to feel the tightness in my stomach.  Just uncomfortable if nothing else but not painful.  I guess its normal and I am a FTM
