Let's chat about pull ups

The girls are potty training now, we put them in underwear during the day, but put them in diapers while we are in the car or while they are sleeping. I am about out of diapers. I am not sure if I should get pull-ups for night time or travel.

Gah, I HATE POTTY TRAINING!

Re: Let's chat about pull ups

  • Get piddle pads for the car seat -- awesome and will protect the car seat.  We never used pull ups but instead transitioned to cloth trainers at nap and kept DD in diapers at night until she mastered day time and then we went for panties all the way.  GL!

You can get cute piddle pads on Etsy but we bought the ones they sell at BRU/Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004U7OQWW/ref=asc_df_B004U7OQWW2000661?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B004U7OQWW&hvpos=1o5&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1688799263941405416&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=

For cloth trainers I loved Super Skivvies and Blueberry- they hold one pee accident, but feel wet so I felt like DD got the point quicker.

  • I loved the pull-ups for when we were out and about in the car, but I only used them at home for overnight. DD didn't understand why she was a big girl during the day, but I put her in a "baby" diaper at night. She was right, to maintain consistency the pull-ups were the way to go. Out of the mouths of babes! :)

Diapers and pull ups feel the same though so I don't think Pull Ups necessarily help.  You can always use Carters or Gerber training panties with a sheet saver over the top of the sheet.  Or, use regular panties with Gerber training pants (plastic and yucky feeling but will protect the bed).

I have some Hanna Andersson training pants that G will not wear.  (I think they are a little too big for her.)  They may fit your girls since they are older.  They are basically cloth with a slightly thicker middle.  She hasn't worn them at all, and I'm happy to send them off if you want them.

  • Huggies pull ups are the best. They can be pulled down or undone on the sides. Some kids don't care if they are wet (mine) so I'm not dealing with training underwear... I am saving my sanity by keeping him in pull ups when I need to. (We are dealing with GI issues and so he's not fully potty trained yet- worst year of my life!!!)

We don't use pull ups at all because DS treated them just like a diaper - to him there was no difference.  When he first started PTing, I bought the Carters training pants (only 2 pairs and it worked out fine) for him to wear when we were out and about.  But he still wears diapers at night and at nap.  Pull ups are much more expensive than the diapers, and he would leak out of them overnight, so we just stuck with the diapers.  He is completely PT during the day, but we will wait a while for nap and night.  The few times I tried, I had to completely change his bed, wash everything (for poop and pee), and I don't want to keep doing that.

We got out training pants on Amazon - here is the girl version:  https://www.amazon.com/Carters-Girls-Rainbow-Training-Months/dp/B004YJCT7A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336154842&sr=8-1

  • I used underwear for all day, travel, errands. I would just bring extra clothes if we were out and about.

Naps I used a pull up for the first few weeks, the same with bedtime.
