1st Trimester

Kissing = NO!

I am thirteen weeks pregnant and I HATE my husband right now. I don't even weant him to kiss me because for the first time in my life, I can smell my husband's face. Is that weird? I can taste it after he kisses me and all I want to do is gag. I feel awful because we had our first ultrasound yesterday and he was so excited about the baby but I can't even stnad it when he touches me most of the time.

 Am I alone here?

  • Mostly I don't like kissing my husband after he's had anything to eat. I can smell his breath and it's so intense I just want to die! BLURG.

  • Sense of smell and taste is really heightened during pregnancy, esp. the first trimester. I can taste and smell every little thing my hubby has been eating all day! I accused him of eating pickles and he told me he had dill pickle chips over five hours ago :-) But on the other side, I'm battling the swamp mouth, so I taste yucky all the time too.

    I haven't experienced this, but honestly, my husband and I have the kind of "fun" relationship where we can tell each other things like this and just get a laugh out of it. I would tell him, "Honey, sorry, but my sense of taste and smell are so strong right now that when you get too close, it makes me gag." He would find this hysterical, and we would move on.

    Not sure if you can do this or not, but maybe you can?

    Well, my mother has told me the story that when she was pregnant with me she couldn't stand my dads odor (very clean man by the way) but she had a problem even sleeping next to him. She also couldn't smell meat so she couldn't cook...her sister had to do the cooking while my mother locked herself in the room and placed towels by the door so the smell would not enter the room.

    During pregnancy our sense of smell is heightened but it affects some women more than others. Good luck!!

  • I know exactly how you feel!! I am 6 weeks today and i cant even stand having my husband come near me half the time because i can smell everything.  And he works out in the oil fields so he smells extra noxious when he comes home every day, i cant even be in the same room with him when he gets home.  Forget about kissing him hello before he showers, and even than sometimes i cant handle it.  He thinks he's doing something wrong but i just told him that the smells are really making me feel gross.  He has started calling it my spidey sense.  You are definitely not alone on this though.

  • Lol...this seriously made me laugh because I do NOT miss these days!! I couldn't even stand the sight of DH because I thought his breath smelled terrible. Now at 19 wks I can't get enough of him. Don't worry, it'll go away! This is very common!
