Highchairs - Help me please??

I need to get at least one or two high chairs that recline because we need to start introducing solids to the boys for reflux issues even tho they have moderate head control.  Long story short, GI specialists don't know their heads from holes in the wall!! (sorry, I'm a little bitter today)

We don't have much space so please share with me your highchair rec's and tell me what's the best feature to look for in a highchair.

 TIA!

Re: Highchairs - Help me please??

  • I LOVE our FP space saver high chairs.  They recline and we just use them on our regular chairs.  On top of that they're cheaper than most and travel well.  I hope the boys are doing better soon!!!  HUGS!

Could you give me the whole story on whats going on with solid foods and the need for the reclining highchairs?? I'm ASSUMING I'll be in the same boat in the next few months!

We have 2 wooden Eddie Bauer high chairs given to us at the shower...they are gorgeous and look lovely sitting in the dining room untouched...but I just had that "CRAP" moment when I read your post!

Yeah, it's another one of those extreme preemie baby issues...  The boys are suffering from reflux but since they aren't vomiting anymore thanks to Prevacid they won't do anything else to alleviate the pain from eating and their food/bottle aversion.   It takes an hour to feed a baby and they won't eat well at all causing them to lose weight and scream inconsolably.  I posted on my blog and the preemies board the F/U to Reflux Hell, tho blog has more details.

I am going to try feeding them more solids like rice cereal, oatmeal, avacado and yobaby yogurt.  It will be easier on my back to use highchairs.  Since they don't have the best the best control we need chairs that recline like bouncy chairs. Plus they are so sick of bouncy and boppy seats that I think it will be a fun change for them. Bumbos and Bebe pods are too upright still and they are still getting used to those.

    Sorry to scare you Sweeter!

  • so the "incline" of the seats are because of their head control or for their reflux? I only ask because my mom was thinking of buying them the bumbo sitters for xmas. Brady is starting to get head control...jax has NONE really (I have to be realistic...he has none). But we're starting to work on all that...just hard because he's so PUKEY all the time :( If it weren't for the g-tube, he'd be losing all his food again (when he starts to heave I vent him and he pukes into the tube from his stomach, then it goes back into his stomach when he calms down...sorry to be graphic). Bottle-feeding practice is a CHALLENGE again....
  • It's for both head control and reflux.  Cameron has head control but can't sit unassisted and when we put him in a bumbo soon after a feed he spits up because of the position of his tummy with all the weight of him sitting up. Evan has little to no head control and is just starting to use his head more but barely.  Plus they can only sit in the bumbo for a few minutes at a time before getting too tired to hold their heads up.

If the chair reclines it's like a bouncy but higher so I can sit like a normal person.  We do put the bouncy on the kitchen table but I'd like to try a new kind of chair for them.

  • I LOVE my space saver high chairs that strap to my regular kitchen chairs. They recline which is great. And are easy to take with us to grandma's, cabin, etc. And they don't take up a ton of room in my kitchen. I got them at Target. And they were only like 50 or so bucks. Way less than a full size high chair.
  • I just got these which I love!:?https://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-Solutions-Newborn-Toddler/dp/B000YZHYQY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1227731192&sr=8-1

It converts into a bouncy seat on top of the highchair. My girls are still too small to eat out of them, but they love to sit up high and look around. I can see us eating in them in a short while (like maybe a month). Your boys might be too big for them though, since they are 7 months. As far as space saving -- it is pretty bulky, but SO convenient! I swear the real estate in our kitchen at this point is more valuable than in Manhattan! There are very few pictures or reviews, so page me if you have any more questions about it!
