If you had success with IUI... how many rounds did you have to go through in order for it to work?
If IUI didn't work, and perhaps IVF did- how many IUI did you do before moving onto IVF and how many IVF rounds did it take for +HPT?
My brother and SIL just had their 1st IUI and I'm pretty sure it didn't work (we'll know this weekend but they tested last weekend and haven't said anything so we're thinking it probably didn't....
I am just curious as to what this whole process entails and how it will unfold for them in order to hopefully soon get at BFP.
TIA!
Re: IUI Question
I could be way off on this, but I think we did 4 IUIs over the course of 8 months before moving on to IVF. 1st attempt didn't result in a transfer, but we had a 5-day transfer with 2nd IVF attempt.
We're kind of bitter with the people who did our IUIs because they kept missing ovulation. They also didn't figure out that I had fertility issues as well until our 3rd IUI attempt. Knowing the extent of our fertility issues, we wouldn't do IUI again and wish we would have done IVF right away.

3 IUIs and were told everything was "perfect" for all three, all BFNs.
1 IVF, again everything was "perfect" and got a BFP.
We had to do 3 IUIs before moving to IVF for insurance purposes.
Second IUI with clomid worked for us. My RE said that if they are going to work, 40% work round 1, 40% work round 2, and 20% work round 3. Based on our diagnosis, we could have moved to IVF without doing 3 IUIs for insurance coverage (low morphology), so if our second hadn't worked, we were going to move on to IVF - based purely on our RE's feeling that if it is going to work, most of the time it works on the first or second try.
Worked on my first try without medication!
I'm fairly young and have no fertility problems though. We used donor sperm which the clinic staff said was very high quality (good motility and volume).
I did do monitoring and blood work which was the most important part for me (however, expensive too).
Thanks! I think that's similar to their situation...
IUI with what?
I got pg on my first cycle of clomid/met/IUI/trigger with DS1. The twins took 2 cycles of the same. I was very fortunate.
I am a fan of IUI's. BUT you have to make sure they are timed correctly with O because if they aren't timed well and you miss the egg, it is pointless.
Here is my story: My RE (highly esteemed, partner with Schoolcraft) strongly encouraged us to go straight to IVF because my numbers were pretty bad. We opted to go the IUI route first and I am so glad that I did as I got pregnant through an IUI.
For us, the decision to go the IUI route just flat came down to cost. The cost of an IUI for me plus medication was about $600-$700. The cost of a single round of IVF was about $15k. Therefore, I literally could have done 20 IUI's for the cost of one single round of IVF. And for other ladies I know, the cost of IUI is even cheaper if insurance covers some of the things.
IMO, the only reason not to give a number of IUI's a chance first is if you either have really good insurance that covers the procedures or if time is a big issue. However, even in these instances, because IVF is alot more involved, I would still at least give 2-3 rounds of IUI a try. JMHO. Good luck!
