My m/w told me that once we saw the heartbeat, the chance of miscarriage is now down to 3%. She also said shes no longer concerned about my hcg levels or low progesterone (I put a call into her yesterday asking if I should be taking supplements for it.. still waiting to hear back) I understand the viewpoint of not interfering with nature, and maybe im just a low horomone person, but we saw the heartbeat and the baby measured exactly in line with my dates - so they said theres nothing to worry about now... but of course im still worrying. Is it true that once you see the heartbeat your pretty much in the clear?

Re: Once you see heartbeat... your in the clear?
You have a < 4% chance of a m/c after seeing a heartbeat on ultrasound. Personally, I feel much better once I hear the hb.
I totally agree with you!! I've never made it to the point where I could see a heartbeat in any of my pregnancies, so that was a milestone in itself! And I too, felt much better at 8 wks after hearing the heartbeat!!
Make a pregnancy ticker
While I feel much better after seeing the HB, I know all too well that many things can happen at any point in a pregnancy, even if m/c is lower on the list.
But once I see the HB on this baby I will be telling everyone I'm expecting!

No you are not in the clear -- Its over 8wks and you hear a heartbeat your risk goes down to 5%. and it keeps going down from there.
This was me as well with my first pregnancy. I would make them give me the progesterone supplements. I had a Hb at 6 wks, and 7 wks, and lost it at 8 wks. I would consult an OB, not just a midwife.
You should still wait til 12 wks. not for family, but don't put it on facebook so early.

I would not stop taking progesterone if your levels are really low. I'm sorry, but seeing a heartbeat doesn't mean anything except that technology keeps advancing to the point that we can see it earlier and earlier. There is never a point where you're "safe." In both my miscarriages I saw heartbeats multiple times and with my first, I even had a great nuchal scan and then three weeks later, in my second trimester, my baby died.
Worrying is a normal part of motherhood and it continues even past the birth of your child. You never stop worrying about them.

This Cluttered Life
I worked at an on office and had too many days where the 20week sono is supposed to be joyous turns into a nightmare.
I have just short of a lupus diagnosis (blood work isn't high enough for definitive diagnosis per rheumatologist ) and am at much higher risk for pregnancy loss/still birth throughout my entire pregnancy and am considered high risk because of it.
And I guess also used the R word, and defended it. So, if it's to obtain info, she certainly isn't aware. So yes, I believe she deserves the flame. I also think it's rediculous to think you are in the clear, just because you saw a heart beat. Let's be serious here. If you are willing to post something on the internet, be ready for what ever response you get.

agreed... I'm pretty sure I can tell whenever I want, I've already told some people and have nothing more than a pee stick to prove it's true.
To each their own!
totally true!
It sucks to have to go through what you have went through. I hope you don't have to ever go through it again! My mom lost my baby sister when I was 7 and that has always stuck in my head especially now with carrying twins. I was not even suppose to be here. I was a premie born 3lbs 6ozs. Sometimes things just happen and we pray and hope that the next will be a perfect little LO> I never give up hope that you will have a great pregnancy.. but NEVER EVER think that just because you have a HB.. that nothing will happen along the way. You just have to hope and pray for a happy and healthy pregnancy, a safe delivery, and a little LO ( or LO's in my case) to hold in your arms and argue with for the rest of your life
.
Ditto. And this OP is the same fvkchead who's bummed that she can't drink now that she's pregnant and has also wanted to go TANNING in a tanning bed while pregnant.
She's an idiot.
With my last pregnancy, we saw the heartbeat at 7 weeks, broke the news to our family and then miscarried at 8 weeks.
Please do not stop any sort of progesterone treatment you may be on until you are safely through the first trimester when the placenta has fully taken over the needed duties. Or better yet - wait until your doctor or m/w says to stop. A sudden drop in progesterone is thought to be one reason for some m/c's.
I would say yes to this, but i had a m/c last year after hearing a heartbeat so that makes me kind of iffy! BUT in my situation we KNEW something was wrong because baby wasn't growing to date at all. So most likely yes
H &H 9 months to you
Fantine: sorry to hear about your m/c that you mentioned in this post.
I quoted you because I saw in your siggy that you have 5 heartbeats?!?! That made me smile to see that. Just wanted to say congrats!
