Yet another bed-sharing question

How did you know your LO was ready to stop bed-sharing? I know I am ready...but how will I know that he is ready? He sleeps so much better in our bed then in his crib so I am guessing he isn't ready?

I'm backing out of this post.  I have an almost 2 1/2 year old who still sleeps with his Momma.  I think it's going to be more difficult on me, than him when we finally make the switch!

  • I'm not the poster anything so take this as my n=1 but with DD2 we reached a point when she slept better on nights when I wasn't home and my back was starting to hurt which I attributed to feeling like I had to lay in one position without moving out of fear of waking her.  She was about 9-10 months if I remember correctly.  I figure DD2 will be similar (and DH is kind of looking forward to this though he doesn't wake up in the night for her so I'm not worried about him) but who knows.

I tried putting LO in her crib a few nights here and there and she wouldn't have it so I knew that it wasn't the right time to make the switch.  A few weeks ago (around 18 months) she went from sleeping soundly most of the night to sleeping very light and thrashing around.  It seemed like she was getting uncomfortable in our bed so I put her in the crib.  The first night she slept five hours straight which she didn't do when bedsharing.

Right now we're doing a combo of the crib and bedhsharing so I'm not entirely sure if LO is 100% ready to be in her crib full time.

  • DS was terrified of his crib. I've gotten him to nap in there but he just doesn't nap as well. Sleeping in there at night is whole other issue. He pretty much acts terrified again. When he was napping in there every time he woke up crying hysterical so I decided to me that mean't he wasn't ready for it yet. I tried it for a week, guessing that was a good go at it.
