Hey ladies.I posted this on 12-24 but thought I would also try here.
Since 7 weeks old, DS has been at in in-home care provider. We have loved just about every thing about his caregiver, but due to our change in needs (I wont get into the details) we are switching DS to a daycare center. After alot of touring and interviewing, we found one we really like. DS spent the morning there today and did great! Shy and clingy at first but when I went to pick him up he had no idea I was there! He had so much fun and was so happy and talked about it the whole way home. That made me feel ALOT better. The biggest change, and what I hope you all have some insight on, is that DS will sleep on a mat there. He still sleeps in a crib at home. While interviewing centers, I brought up this concern and they all said the kids seem to transition well, especially once they see the other kids sleeping on mats. Also, they go down for a nap about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs earlier than he is used to.
If you started DC in a daycare around age 2, how did the mat/cot nap transition go? Any suggestions to help him deal with an earlier nap time?
Re: Anyone start at a daycare at age 2? slightly different than post below :)
We moved when DD was just over a year, and her old daycare school had her still in cribs (they transition to cot at 1.5yo).
DD's new daycare school used cots, and as PP's mentioned my DD had no trouble transitioning to the cot. She loves it! I think she felt like a big girl, and having all the other kids doing it made her want to do it.
GL at the new place!

Kiddo started daycare at 2 1/2. She still sleeps in a crib at home, and she had no problem sleeping on a mat. She doesn't nap at daycare every day, but she doesn't nap at home every day either. When she doesn't fall asleep, she stays on the mat for 1/2 hour until she can get up (daycare rule). I took her to Target, and she picked out a special Thomas blanket to use at nap time at daycare. She sees the other kids on mats at daycare (we call it preschool), and she is proud to do the same, because she is a big girl too
