TTC after 35

worried about having a friend do my IUI

Don't worry, this isn't some kind of crazy at-home IUI story.

One of my close friends (friends for a decade, I introduced her to her husband, who I am even closer friends with) is an OB/GYN and I see a doctor in her practice.  I am doing my last IUI with my current doctor this cycle, and it looks like I am going to get the positive OPK either tomorrow or the next day, which would put the IUI on Sat or Sun.

My friend is on call for her practice over the weekend, and I'm not going to lie -- I am mortified at the thought of her doing my IUI.  I know it's her job, etc., etc., but still, I cannot think of a more awkward interaction!

Re: worried about having a friend do my IUI

  • Oy vey. I could totally see how that would be awkward-- but at least you're friends, right, and not just "acquaintances!" I can't imagine knowing the person and running into the person "around" but not being close enough to be able to laugh about it and maybe having been in a changing room together...

  • Yikes, that is awkward. But, maybe you can try to turn it into a positive? After all, you won't be the owner of just another cervix she has to thread. Huh?

  • When I was still practicing nursing I got really sick.  It was much cheaper for me to go to the ER where I worked.  Not only did my coworkers literally see me in my underwear, I got the fun dildo cam from someone that I see every day.  I thought that it was going to be horrific but it really was not as bad as my imagination made it.

You are going to get someone that cares for you on a personal level.  Someday soon she will be looking at your pregnant belly and saying, "I did that".

You make me feel betteer and bring up a good point!  My friend always tell her sons that they wouldn't be here if it wasn't for me (introducing her to her husband), so it would be nice to say the same for her!

  • She might be uncomfortable, as well.  And it's a conflict of interest.  I would let the office know about your concerns and another doctor might fill in for that one procedure.

  • OK. That could be awkward. Though I've noticed that more and more things that I just knew would be awkward turned out not to be.

Hopefully this won't be an issue.

  • Country Girl had a great point.  You are in good hands.  I know it's an awkward situation but there is a silver lining!  Good luck this weekend!!

  • Agree with PP - it will be awkward but if it all works out you'll have a wonderful story to share!  Good luck!

  • You may think it will be awkward, but in my experience it was not, not at all.  I have a very dear friend that works in my Dr.'s office as a nurse and for my 1st IUI she was in the room with me....I wasnt sure about it at first, but it all worked out just fine and it actually eased my mind a little knowing that since I had an "in" there, they took just a little extra care with me. And now she keeps tabs on all my labs and texts me when they come in...she is very involved in our TCC.

    Good luck!
