? for those with high lipase

i had high lipase with DS 4 yrs ago.  he never liked my frozen and thawed milk, and would take maybe 2.5+ oz of a 4oz bottle after repeated attempts.  I always had plenty of milk so I never minded wasting some of that frozen milk.  Since I am EPing right now with DD I don't want to waste what I store.  Did you have high lipase with every child?  Did you scald your milk before freezing?

Re: ? for those with high lipase

  • I had high lipase with my DD 4 years ago so with this child I scald the milk.  It doesn't smell funny and my baby drinks it, so it's worth the PITA it is to go through the process of scalding.

I have it with both kids. With DS1 he could have cared less so I didn't scald. With DS2 he had a rough time in the beginning. I thought it was the taste of the milk so I started scalding. After awhile I realized it was the bottle so I have stopped scalding for awhile. Haven't decided if I'll start up again or not. It is such a hassle but the little stinker is worth it! :)

I have high lipase too and I found out the hard way with DS1.  I ended up throwing away nearly 800 ounces b/c he refused it.

Now I'm EPing for DS2 and just making sure I rotate my stash every two weeks.  I did a test and milk thawed after two weeks was fine, no smell but after three weeks it was icky.

Explain to me your process for scalding.  Do you keep milk in the fridge and then scald when you have enough to make it worth while?  I'd like to start doing this so I'm not forced to rotate my stash so frequently.

    TIA!

It depends on how long your milk lasts in the fridge. You just have to scald before it starts to turn. I used a bottle warmer to scald my milk. I did it every night because my milk lasts less than 48 hours. I used the process below.
