Teeth brushing?

Anyone doing it? What type of toothbrush are you using?

DD's got four teeth (two front and bottoms) plus two little side top ones coming in and I think it's likely time to start adding it to her bedtime routine.

Re: Teeth brushing?

  • we bought T a tiny toothbrush by gerber that comes with non fluoride toothpaste. She lets me do a few swipes and then she likes to try and do it herself.

  • we brush LO's teeth after her bath each night.  I use the finger tip brush b/c I can feel the teeth and make sure I'm getting them. Plus I massage her poor little gums (molars are coming in).  She LOVES it!

We also have a little regular toothbrush that I give her afterwards so she can do it herself. It's adorable.

  • We brush Chloe's teeth right before bed.  I got these snoopy toothbrushes from target, I think it was $2 for 4 toothbrushes and we use orajel baby toothpaste.  She let's us do it a few times then I let her do it.

Yep, we've been brushing since her first two teeth popped through months ago. We use Oral B's baby toothpaste. She loves it and DH is obsessed with brushing her teeth!

We brush before bed and I let her brush her own teeth after lunch.  I use this toothbrush from One Step Ahead - she likes to chew on it which brushes her teeth which is awesome (Similar to Scout, otherwise it can be a nightmare.)  Our ped. dentist also recommended the tooth tissues which DD likes to chew/suck on and I can use to get back at her molar areas.

  • We brush in the morning when I'm home with him, and before bed.  He sits on the bathroom counter while we brush.  He has two brushes.  First I hand him the silicone one (it looks like a regular brush, but silicone).  He chews on it while I brush my own teeth.  Then I get his other tooth brush--the finger kind.  He hangs onto his silicone brush while I brush his teeth with the finger brush.

This is more than you actually asked; I guess I felt like sharing.

We brush after bedtime.  E is OBSESSED with getting her teeth brushed.  We use an infant toothbrush with Pooh on it and a training toothpaste that is apple banana flavored.

We attempt to, yes.  He has 8 teeth.  We started with the fingertip toothbrush, but now he bites down on it and it kind of hurts so we graduated to a regular one.  He's not a huge fan of it, but we need to make it a habit so we do it.

  • My kid still has ZERO teeth! But we do brush nightly with the little bendy banana toothbrush and he loves it - feels so great to his gums.
  • We brush at least once (sometimes twice) a day. It's a Gerber toddler toothbrush that comes with the "Giggles and Grins" toothpaste.

We started with the rubber thimble one but upgraded about a month ago.

Also, remember that Nora has had 8 teeth since she was 9 months old so we've been at it for a while.

DD currently has 5 teeth - I'm wondering when the 6th is going to appear since they're supposed to come down in pairs??? She has 3 up top right now and 2 bottom.

Anyway, I am embarrassed to admit that we haven't yet adjusted our bedtime routine to include brushing but we clearly need to. We have the baby brush and baby toothpaste...the one time we tried, she clamped her mouth shut and shook her head back & forth. We couldn't even get the brush in her mouth. I tried showing her how to do it - pretending to brush my own teeth with it - nope. Our Pedi suggested just holding her down and forcing it, which I haven't been able to bring myself to do yet because it sounds so horrible. But we need to do it for the sake of her dental health. Ugh, parenthood is not always easy.

Giselle hates getting her teeth brushed too.  What I have been doing is using a wet wash rag during bath time. When she's distracted with her bath toys, I wipe her teeth with the wet wash rag.

  • We have a Safety 1st brush that came as part of a kit.

We try to brush her teeth every night before bed and have started letting her just play with the brush after.  It makes it a little less nightmare-ish to let her try and do it herself.

DD has 10 teeth (she has 4 molars) and we try, but it's not always successful. Our ped said to let her chew on the toothbrush even if that's the only thing we get done. I think I need to get better about just holding her down to get them brushed and hopefully it will become routine and she won't fight it so much.

  • DS has 6 teeth. We've asked the babysitters (he has two who trade off days while DH works from home upstairs) to brush his teeth after meals but we suspect one of them doesn't do it very often. We figure if we can get at least a mediocre brush after each meal, and if we do a more thorough one before bed, DS will be good to go.

We started with a finger brush but now it hurts too much if DS bites down. We tried an infant toothbrush for a while but he wasn't crazy about it other than chewing on it. Now we use a batter-operated spin brush (one of the kids' ones for ages 3+) and that has had pretty decent success. I dart in with the brush a few times while he's reading or playing with DH before bed.

I do still nurse him before bed, but I've started keeping a sippy cup of water next to me and I'll have him drink from it when he's done nursing. Then I try to do a quick polish of his teeth with a dry washcloth before I put him down.

Pretty much this. I do it morning and night. She mostly "brushes" them and then I try to get in there. The back molars are the hardest, I feel like I'm gagging her trying to get at them!
