kicked off the maternity wing

Has anyone heard of this happening before?

You know those annoying people that like to tell you horror stories about the hospital your going to deliver at before you deliver? Yep this was one of them. They said too many ladies were being induced at once before the holiday weekend and they ran out of rooms. So instead of making two new moms share a room they moved one to a completely different wing of the hospital, where she had to share a room with another lady. They told her her husband had to go home and that her baby wasn't aloud to leave the maternity wing. Then they offered her no assistance to get back and forth to the nursery to see her baby.

This is one of the stories I would love to not have to deal with hearing right before deliver. You would think people wouldn't be so rude as to try to worry you about this kind of stuff. I have no choice but to deliver at this hospital as I live in a crap town in the middle of nowheres land. All I know is baby best not come out on this super moon or right before Memorial Day.

  • I have never heard this happening and really don't believe it either. There is no way a hospital would keep a newborn away from their mother.

So I thought too, until other ladies started chiming into the conversation, one saying it happened to her and another saying that they almost did it to her until she threw a giant *** fit.

  • I kinda don't believe it either. My cousin was an L&D nurse at the 'baby factory' hospital here, and when they'd get super busy like that, they would start cancelling and rescheduling the non-emergent inductions and c-sections.

If I had heard something like this about the hospital I was delivering at I'd definitely be asking my doctor...if for nothing else to keep my mind at ease... & plus if they do try to do that (which I agree with the pp that I can't imagine keeping a baby from their mother like that) but JUST IN CASE they do while your throwing your giant b***ch fit (cuz I'd be crying & spewing every cuss word imaginable) you can scream at them that the doctor promised you that this wouldnt happen! Cause you asked!

When I was preregistering at the hospital last week I had to sign a paper saying that in the case of over crowding the next person who is scheduled to be discharged would be even if it was before the 2 days you have to recover. I'm not sure about moving you to a different wing of the hospital. I guess that could be an option. I would be scared to just because of how much the maternity ward is on lock down and the other areas of the hospital are not. I would feel safer in my own house. We had to sign that paper just in case you were the person that had to be discharged early.

  • When I had DS, they almost rescheduled my induction because they had so many women who happened to go into labor at the same time. They literally told me to wait a few hours and call them back and they'd let me know if they had a room open for me. Lucky for me, they did!

  • I don't believe that, either. Most hospitals (I would think) would do like my hospital did and have you call before you actually go in for an induction just to make sure they have enough rooms.
