Success after IF

xp from IFV, who has had a tube out?

Hi ladies! (SAIF ladies, I am reposting this since I think I remember some of you having a tube or both out, sorry about all the random backround lol)

So we are finally moving forward with everything, My doctor found me a gyn surgeon who reviewed my file and history blah blah blah...my tube DOES need to come out, and ASAP.

He wasn't messing around when he meant asap, I had the appointment monday afternoon, when we left his office DH and I went to get some food...we were about to order and my phone rings and it's the nurse doing the prescheduling stuff...um ok, she told me he was booking well into June and I was bummed but like whatever, then she tells me he made me priority, and it would most likely be in next 2-3 weeks, OK I can handle that. Yesterday am she called me back, after meeting with him, he wanted it faster, so my tube is coming out Tuesday morning...OMG

I am happy/sad/relieved/nervous

I feel like I have to turbo clean everything, go buy new jammies( I HAVE to have new jammies before any procedure, I am supersticious) get groceries, go get my pre op labs..etc.....oh and we are like broke so I have to do this creatively lol!

Anyways, hopefully this will stop my pain and prevent further miscarriages since it is twisted and pulling and leaking toxic(the dr thinks) goo. His other theory is that it's filled with endo and swells up periodically. Fun

I am sad it has to come out, i feel defeated, but its broken, and wont ever work again...also it is preventing us from reaching our ultimate goal!

So, who has had a tube out? Same or Worse than a bad lap? What should I expect? Tips?

He's also going to peek around, clean up any rogue endo that may have regrown and check for polyops and fibroids....He also was super funny, and goes " i see you have anxiety, and I can tell, don't stress, I am going to take good care of you, lots of drugs before during and after LOL

He also made it a point to chat with dh a bit, we both really liked him

Nothing obvious on fb, I just don't want to deal with all the nosy nellies at this point, vague messages or privates ones are always welcome!

Wow, this got loooonnnggg. Sorry and thanks for reading!

I had my right tube removed 2 years ago. The pain afterwards wasn't too bad, but I do remember it taking a lot longer to bounce back to my normal self than I thought it would. Just remember to keep up on your pain meds. And get lots of lots of rest.  The scars are very small. Lots of luck!

  • I had both tubes removed 8 years ago because of hydrosalpinx (caused by adhesions from a ruptured appendix in 1989). The scars are tiny, especially compared to my appendectomy scars. My surgery was rough because of all the adhesions and I had a random allergic reaction to the stitches they used inside the wound, but without those issues I think my recovery would have been much faster. The good news is I have been PAIN FREE since then. It took years to figure out why I was always in pain...it hurt to run, have sex, etc, and doctors kept assuming UTIs, uterine issues, etc, so once we got to the bottom of it and got the tubes out, the relief was tremendous.

I'm currently 7 months with twins as a result of my first IVF.

Good luck!  Surgery is always scary, but I promise, after you're healed, you'll feel like a new person.

    Twin boys due 7/25/12
  • Lurker here. :)

I had both tubes removed after they were scarred and hydro from previous colon surgery for endo. We tried to unblock them first, but it wasn't successful and I had them both removed. Surgery wasn't bad at all and my recovery was pretty easy. I didn't have much pain at all after the first couple days.

We went on to do IVF and had DD. Now expecting twin boys after IVF #2.

     Good luck!

  • Hi there. I had my right tube removed due to hydro back in 2009. The surgery was about 45 minutes long and recovery was pretty fast too. I had it done on Wed and I was back to work (desk job) on Mon. By Tue I was feeling pretty good. Shortly after we tried 3 iui's - unfortunately unsuccessful. Our first Ivf worked and resulted in our girls. I will be honest: I have a very high tolerance for pain and I recover fast. Don't plan on doing anything for at least 3-4 days post op. Good luck!

My experience is different since I had it out in an emergency surgery due to a torsed ovary so the recovery was a full 4 weeks :/
