IUI #1= BFN

I think I've taken this BFN harder than any other one so far.

I'm now considering laparoscopy to rule out physical problems. What are your opinions on when a laparoscopy should be done if there have been no signs of a physical problem? Can endometriosis be present with no symptoms? Can endometriosis be seen on an ultrasound or HSG?

Hi mrs25. I have done a lap and they found no endo but I had pain, later on I went to another OB GYN that told me that I have mild adenomyosis which he found with an ultrasound but told me that should not impact fertility. Endo cannot be found with HSG or ultrasound. Still the diagnosis can only be 100% confimed w. a lap.

From my experience, I don't recomment the lap, unless you have pain, but of course check w. your doctor, the lap will only delay your IF treatment. I do regret doing a lap but that is because they found nothing. If I were to do this again I would go straight to IUI and IVF. I am on my first cycle of IUI now, did my lap in january, I have been fighting for a year looking for the source of the pain. I wish i have started IF treatment earlier.

I would think Endo would have symptoms. Even under the best of circumstances the IUI doesn't have a huge chance of success. I'm sorry you are so frustrated.

I am at the exact same place, so sorry - it really sucks!

If IUI 4 is a bust for us we are really at a point where I need to have lap (but I am petrified). I am unexplained so my doctor feels that is the next step.

You can have endo and not have symptoms. In fact infertility is a symptom and for some the only sign.

I have had two HSG's and multiple utltrsounds and all looks normal so as far as I know lap is the only true way to diagnose and treat endo.

There are a lot of success after lap stories, I wish I could not be so freaked out by it and just have it done!

I am so sorry! I have stage IV endo and I have no symptoms other than infertility. My HSG was also normal. So the only way to dx is with lap. I had my first lap done in 2008 with my OB then my RE did another one after 3 failed IUI in 2009 and we did IVF the cycle right after my lap. He said that immediately after lap would be the best opportunity to get pregnant, and he was right the IVF worked. Good Luck! I think if I were you I would try a couple more IUI before I had the lap.
