Secondary IF

So now I'm obsessing

Does my chances of conceiving each month go down when on clomid?  Overall?  I just read somewhere that unexplained secondary IF has the least chance of conception, and is lessened by artificial hormones.

That makes no sense, or does it?

Anyway, I'm 12 dpo and still haven't tested and of course overanalyzing everything and now this made me sad.

I don't want to go through this sh*t anymore.  I just want to be pregnant.

I still cannot believe this is my reality right now Crying

Sorry, b*tchfest over.  I just hate it.

Positive note: Done the stupid Crinone progesterone gel suppository after tonight.  So gross.

I've been reading/thinking things like that too.  Do you by any chance still have the link to the article?

I've heard that there is a 10-15% chance of success for the first 3 months.  If not KU by that time, the chance of success drops with each successive cycle.  (Which is one of the reasons why they usually cut you off)  I'm doing 6 months of femara, but after cycle 4, I'm wondering if this is a waste of time.  Besides, how many times have you heard "oh, she did tons of fertility treatment.  Then she gave up, and got PG on her own"  I hear this all the time.  I think the meds have something to do with it, but its interesting that this would happen with lower levels of residual meds in the system (this is the natual medicine person in me talking...)

Here is one of the articles:

    https://www.fertilitydr.com/clomid.html

But I can't find the other one.  In here it says "Numerous studies demonstrate that Clomid is most likely to be effective in the first 3-6 ovulatory cycles and Clomid pregnancies decline dramatically after 3 cycles".  I cannot find the other link that I read that discusses the decrease in chances with prolonged use of fertility drugs.

  • I was hoping to obsess a little more tonight about my chances of ever having another baby, since my BFN today.  Thanks for the reading material! ;)....seriously! I'm sorry you are having such a bad day...Mine's been rough too.  I can't believe that infertility is happening to me!!!

It's the same with IUI...and maybe everyone already knows this, but the statistic I've read is this:  "90% of successful IUI's occur within the first 3 cycles."  I think this is huge!   I guess that's why they don't recommend more than three of any type of treatment.

Do you know where you read this?  I'm really hoping that's because a lot of secondary infertility is because of maternal age.  I'm only 29 (I'm no spring chicken, but not too bad).  How about you?

I found it in an article during my break @ work today and now I'm not finding it. I'll go back on my history of my work computer and see if I can find it there.

    I am also 29 :)

I was on Clomid for 5 months with my OB and then 3 months with my RE when I conceived DS so I'm not sure I buy that. The reason Clomid alone didn't work for me was that I still needed to treat my insulin resistance and short luteal phase.

Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!
