How long should these stay on for? Mine have been on for 12 days and are holding on for dear life...seems a little long to me. Just wondering when it becomes more of an infection risk than a benefit to an incision that's healing well.
If they are barely on you can probably take them off. I would call the doctor. When is your follow-up app't?
I just got gall bladder surgery and I took the steristrips off before reading on my discharge paper that I wasn't supposed to. I had my follow-up app't yesterday, and they never mentioned me taking them off.
The nurses at the hospital told me to leave them on til they fell off, but my OB pulled em off at my 2w pp appt. She used a little alcohol to loosen the glue and I didn't feel a thing.
I just went for my 4 week follow-up and my Dr. took them off. My incision was starting to get a little infected and she said it was because the strips were holding moisture. She said that most of the time it was fine if they came off after 1 week.
With my last c/s I was told to keep them on until they fell off on their own. I ended up taking them all off at 2 weeks pp due to an allergy from the adhesive on the tape. I broke out in blisters everywhere and could not take the itching anymore so I took them off and started putting antibiotic ointment on them.
I am sure they are not on there to prevent infection because I asked my current OB regarding it since I do not want to go through it this time. He told me that they would not put any on just to remind him the day of. The reason they put them on is to keep the scar smaller. He said the plastic surgeons like them on for that reason.
My doctor said remove them 7 days after leaving the hospital. Some of mine were still stuck pretty good so I had my husband do them. It's just like ripping a bandaid off. The incision was still pretty tender so the steristrips were a walk in the park.

My doc said to take them off 10-14 days after leaving the hospital. Mine had still not budged by 14 days, so I took them off myself. My incision did great!

I was told to leave them on unless they came off on their own. At my 2-week appt (17 days after c/s), only 2 had come off and my OB removed the rest.
Just about the same here - expect I had all of mine on still and he just took them off.

This. Except I missed that part when leaving and had pulled all mine off 2 days prior. My OB was like "Oh. You did my job for me"
