Are licensed in-home daycare providers allowed to drive kids anywhere?

We are looking to switch our daughter from a non-licensed to a licensed in home daycare provider (not because she isn't licensed, just because we are sick of the long commute). But we are also looking to enroll her in a preschool program a few hours a week. Does anyone know if licensed day care providers are allowed to drive kids anywhere, like preschool, since DH and I don't work close enough to home to provide her transportation to preschool. Our current provider brings kids to the local preschool, but I'm not having any luck finding a licensed provider that can transport kids, it seems like they all watch too many kids to be able to easily get out of the house.

  • Yes, they can but it really becomes a matter if it is practical to scoop-up all of the kiddies to transport a few to a preschool program.

With-in walking is more pratical. Especially with babies in care.

My darling daughter just turned 4 years old.

We've used a licensed in-home daycare provider for our toddler.  We signed a permission slip to let her transport DD to local parks and schools.  The caregiver drives a van and is licensed to care for up to 8 kids.  The kids' parents drop them off at school, and she picks them up daily.  She has enough carseats for everyone, and she just brings the babies and other kids along for school pickups.  DD never seemed to mind taking outings to pick up other kids, and she often fell asleep in the car.
  • The in-home my kids used to attend did this.  One of the assistants would dpick up the kids and bring them to the DC after school.  I would ask if this is a service they provide.

  • Ours is allowed, I signed permission since they go to playgroup and a whole bunch of other fun activities. I have spare car seats, they're installed in her van. Licensed care here limits to 6 children, but she never has had more than 5 ever. I've never had trouble with her in any aspect of her childcare, and she's a good driver.
