The girls suggested I come over...so here's my dilemma....
My boss is sending me to a conference for 4 days. Usually I'd be
ecstatic to get away, but this is soooo last minute, one of my cohorts
is in the hospital so I must go in his place. I am heartbroken because
I am still breastfeeding. I plan on trying as hard as I can to get
ahead of the game and freeze the milk so he has plenty while I'm gone.
I will be four hours away from the little monkey, I just want some
reassurance that he's going to be fine without mommy and has anyone had
any issues with their child eating frozen breastmilk? I guess the only
way I'll find out is by trying, thank goodness for a long weekend.
Thanks ladies. ![]()
Re: From a 6 + monther....a little help
I didn't travel, but I did pump and freeze my BM. I never had a problem with using frozen BM. My only advice might be to try some formula with your son before your trip, just in case there is a problem with the BM. Good luck.
For a while I was traveling about once a month while I was still nursing and pumping. Most of those trips were just one or two nights away, but when DD was 9 months I did one 4 night trip.
My daughter did fine. DH stepped up and did a great job taking care of her. DD took the frozen breastmilk without a problem, and once she was on solids she would generally eat more for dinner while I was gone since she couldn't nurse all evening.
Our nursing relationship was fine when we returned and we're still going at almost 22 months. She's only nursing once a day now, so I don't even have to pump if I'm away for one day.
Get a hotel room with a refrigerator (say it is for medical reasons, so you shouldn't get charged extra) and bring ice packs or ziplocs to fill with ice for the trip home with your milk. When packed with ice, the milk will stay cold for a surprisingly long time. Don't freeze the milk you pump while you're away. If it starts to defrost on the way home it will have to be used within 24 hours or dumped.
