Those with ergo carriers, a question

I'm looking into the ergo performance carrier for both me and my husband. However, I want to be sure that my four month old won't grow out of it. The product info page says it can be used for babies up to 4-5 months or 45 pounds... I may just be sleep deprived but I find that a bit confusing.

So, does someone have this and use it with an older baby? Ideally I'd like to use it for as long as possible.

TIA!

The way that is worded is confusing, I agree.  I think they are saying from 7-10lbs with the infant insert or 4-5 months without the insert to 45 lbs.

So you can start using it at 4-5 months w/o the insert until the baby is 45 lbs.

I have a beco gemini (similar carrier) and use it all the time w/DD who is almost one.  I plan on continuing to use it as long as she'll let me or until she hits the weight limit, which won't be for another couple years.

  • I have the Ergo performance and love it. We started using it at 4 months (used the freebie baby Bjorn until then) and still use it now at almost 2. Not quite as often anymore but at least once a week to go grocery shopping. DD is just over 23 pounds and I still use a front carry when we are flying because it is easier to get her in that way on a cramped tiny plane. Otherwise I use a back carry. I plan on continuing to use it for as long as possible. We stopped traveling with a stroller at 4 months old and just use the Ergo. DD much prefers it to a stroller.

  • What, you don't think your baby will hit 45lb in the next 2 months??? LOL.

I have used it pretty recently, but pretty rarely these days as DS is 2.5yo and 35lb and not willing to be restrained for long by anything.. A front carry at this weight kills my back, but it's still fairly comfy on a back carry. DH last carried DD in it a while back and she was 4yo and close to the weight limit. At that point it's just a piggy back ride but the kid has something to hang onto other than your neck.

  • Thanks for the replies!

I ordered the original and it should be arriving soon. I just hope she likes it. She HATES wraps with a passion but loves to be held. Fingers crossed!

  • DS is young but very big for his age (around 20 lbs) and I wear him in the front daily with no problem.
