TTC after 35

Clomid and O day question...

So my OB tells me things-- as do my drug guides-- but I don't believe them all. I want some real-person experience/knowledge:

Clomid. Has it changed your O day? I was planning on just starting my OPKs on my normal cycle day (CD10) but was wondering if that might backfire on me if the Clomid makes me O earlier than normal...?

Re: Clomid and O day question...

  • This is my first cycle on Clomid and my O day did not change.

     TTC since August 2011, Me = 40, DH = 38
Unexplained IF. Tried Clomid for 3 cycles. All BFNs. BFP 1/6/13. Chemical pregnancy.

Moving on to IVF#1. ER 11/26/13, 16 eggs retreived, 12 mature and all fertilized. 2 blasts transferred on 12/1. All other embies arrested so nothing left to freeze. Beta 12/10 = BFN. IVF #2 March 2014. BFP!!! TEAM BLUE!!!

  • Clomid did not change my O day, but it did extend my LP by a few days and it did make me terribly moody but I found taking it at bedtime helped tremendously.

  • I only did one cycle with clomid but it changed my O day from around CD-20 to CD-13.  However, I was never regular and my cycles were all over the place.  I know other people that also O earlier on clomid.
    BFP on IVF #2 6/29/2012. Beta #1 7/3 = 522; Beta #2 = 1180; Beta #3 = 6491 image BabyFruit Ticker
  • It changed my ovulation day from day 20 to day 12.

  • Oh crapola! I have to start using my OPKs sooner then!

Especially since MH has to do his SA tomorrow, so no BDing until after that!

  • No, no don't panic. It delayed my O a day a so.

I think if women tend towards anovulatory, hence the ovulating late, their O gets moved earlier. It is used to induce ovulation in women who are anovulatory. For the rest of us, it shouldn't have that effect. If anything, I was told, it would delay my O because it is antagonistic to your normal hormones. (Thus you body produces more of them, leading to a stronger eventual ovulation.)

Oh man-- I SO very much wished I had paid more attention during my maternity rotation. I only learned what I needed to for the tests since I knew I would never work in maternity and I didn't want to feed the baby-rabies until after I graduated!

At least I can stop holding in my pee for another hour and just go, since I no longer have to worry about starting my OPKs right away. Phew!

We did not learn about IF at all during my OBGYN rotations.  We did not even have that as an option for our specialty.  I was paying close attention.  I was already engaged and I was having my first 2 years after graduation.

Last cycle I tried Clomid for first time. I didn't keep track of O though. My cycle on Clomid was 26 days. Without Clomid it was usually 28-30 days. This time I'm going to track O. Today is CD12. No O yet.
