Abbey will be one on June 1st. I have decided that I'm ready to start weaning her now.
In the last week I've started offering one bottle of formula in addition to the nursing. She nurses about 3 times a day now (sometimes a 4th small session). She sometimes takes about 5oz of formula but usually it's only about 2-3oz.
I want to drop down to a morning and night feed and then eventually just one feed (probably the night one) which I will continue to offer for a while past 1 year.
My question is how much formula vs breastmilk are you offering now? I feel like she's not taking enough formula. Should I just assume she's taking more BM that I realize? My boobs feel sooooo empty...they are like deflated baloons....but I do get a letdown if she nurses long enough.
Re: if you've recently started weaning or will wean at one year....
Are you offering the formula in place of one of the nursing sessions or in addition to?
I nurse Max 4 times a day and offer a bottle after every feeding since my milk supply is crap. He generally takes about 2-3oz after 3 of those feedings but will take an entire 6oz bottle right before bed. Part of this is because once I stopped stressing, my milk got a little better. Part of it is solids. I have no idea how much breastmilk he gets (I've never had luck pumping to even guess).
I wouldn't worry about A not getting enough formula at this point. I would offer it and trust that she is taking what she needs. I think if she is hungry, she will let you know!
peace,
