Success after IF

NYC moms

DH and I are planning our first trip into the city in a few weeks.  We need some time and are going through withdrawal since we haven't been in since I was in 2nd tri.  We're spending the night in manhattan, but our primary reason for the trip is to take DS to his first yankees game.

Any advice for getting around the city with the baby?  We're trying to decide between an Ergo or stroller for the city.  Any tips?  Are umbrella strollers impractical with all the curbs (or other stroller is a city mini, but we're trying to limit what to bring).  We park in a garage just outside the Lincoln tunnel and our hotel is at 40th and 6th, so not a terrible walk.  Finally, how's the subway with baby?  I want to take a cab to the stadium, but DH seems to think the subway would actually be better.

 TIA!  Wish us luck!

  • You definitely want to do the subway--- or actually, see if MetroNorth goes to Yankee Stadium---it's cleaner and less ridiculous. A Taxi will cost you $$$$ and will also get stuck in traffic.

  • I would absolutely bring the City Mini assuming you are doing more than just going to the game in the city.

But for the game itself, I would take the subway and wear the baby.

This exactly. Don't take a cab to the game. There will be no carseat, it will be expensive and you will sit in traffic.

metro north does go to the stadium, i would do that over subway, nicer ride and comfy seats.

    Have fun cutie

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

  • We don't live there but we go every year, and I'll ditto the others.  Strollers are great in the city, but I wouldn't want to have to deal with it at the stadium.  Have fun!

  • I use the Maclaren Volo in the city so I can just throw it on my shoulder on the train.  But with 2 of you you probably don't need something that light.  But even that one handles the streets fine.  At that age if he would have been happy in the carrier it would have worked better.

Did you know there is a ferry in Atlantic Highlands that goes back and forth to the stadium on some game days?  It includes tickets to the game.  It's expensive but I would love to try it!

I agree with the others about taking the subway.  I wanted to add that there are a ton of stairs to get from the subway to the stadium.  Despite that, I would still bring a stroller (carrying it) and wear the baby.  Ballgames are 4 hours long and you might get hot and tired of wearing the baby (I know I did!)  I brought my son to several games and it was really nice to be able to put him down so he could sleep in the stroller.  Once you're inside the stadium, it's really easy to walk around iwth one.
