June 2011 Moms

Opinions-especially HR people

Alright I have a month to decide this so it's a bit cart before horse but I'm stressing about this. I'm going back to work from mat leave on June 1. I will be 11 weeks pregnant. It's earlier than I would normally tell my employer that I am expecting but I will spend my first day back meeting with HR and management discussing my role, upcoming presentations, committees etc. And it feels almost deceitful to go through all that and then 2-3 weeks later tell them that im pregnant and will be off again in 6 months.

Im not concerned for my job or anything and I'm sure it will be irritating to them no matter when I tell them because it's 6 months after I'm back from may leave but will it be less/more annoying to find out up front or 2-3 weeks later? Will it even matter?

I will be having an ultrasound the week before at 10 weeks so this I'd assuming that all is well up unt then and at that appointment. If I waited, I would likely tell them after my 14 week appointment if I hear the HB on a Doppler. So, what do you think? Tell right away or wait a few weeks? This is my 3rd so I likely won't be able to hide it much longer than that.

  • If it was me I would just tell them, if it was 6-8 weeks I would wait until 12, but 11 weeks is close enough (esp with #3) IMHO...  Whatever you decide GL!

I agree with this as well.

  • I agree with the above. Personally, i think telling work is different than telling friends and family because it is can change your quality of life at work and dynamics of your job. But if you are really uncomfortable telling at 11 weeks then wait until you feel comfortable. It's your baby and you should do what's right for you, not what would be better for other people's schedules. And 2 weeks isn't such a big difference in the grand scheme of things.
