My LO is 16 weeks old and is very unpredictable with how much he will sleep at night. It's usually anywhere from 3 to 5 1/2 hours in a row. Twice it was 7 1/2 hours which was totally random - I wish I knew what made him do that! I'm not complaining because I don't think that amount of time is too bad plus he is a good napper, but I did want to know what other babies around this age are doing. The baby's first year book I have says they sleep 8-12 hours in a row which seems like a lot to me. I'm going to start reading a sleep book but until then was wondering what everyone else's LO was doing. Thanks!
Re: How long does your LO sleep? (Also on January 2012 Board)
12 hours. That's who much little babies at this age need.
My DD sleeps 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., and takes 3 naps per day, anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours each. Lots of sleeping is happening when that much growth is going on! Wait until your baby is 1, then you'll be able to really see all the changes that happened in a year!
We get about 9-9.5 hours, and then they'll usually go down for 2-3 hours more (or as long as they can until we have to leave if it's during the week). If we could get them to bed at 8:30pm-ish then H and I would get to STTN (we would have to get them up by about 5:45 to get them both fed before we had to leave), but they like to go to bed between 7-7:30 so they're usually up around 4:30.
ETA - They JUST started sleeping this well consistently in the past week or so. When I started work 3 weeks ago they were up twice a night and sleeping anywhere from 4-7 hours at a stretch. We've been increasing what they eat and have been getting longer stretches. We started with just trying to increase their bedtime bottles and when they took that well and started skipping a feeding we increased the daytime bottles to try to make up what they were missing.
I'd say the longest I get out of DD is 8-9 hours, but not consistently. She's usually down for the night by 9 and will wake up in the 4 or 5 oclock hour, I'll give her a short feeding and she'll go back to sleep until I wake her up for the day at 7.
I've had my longest stretches when I give her a dream feed before I go to bed.
Every baby is different. My DS usually only sleeps 3-4 hours for his longest stretch as well. He was giving me a 5-6 hour stretch for a couple weeks but I think his teeth are bothering him. He naps well during the day and is thriving and I'm pretty against sleep training at this age so we are just going with it for now.
I have several friends who's one year olds still don't STTN and never have. I just keep telling myself I will sleep again eventually! Good luck to you.
