Inspired by sleep post - update

I got inspired by the earlier sleep post and decided to give Ferber a try even though I didn't finish the book. DD has been bedsharing since 5 months and she is now sleeping in her crib! For how long I don't know, but it's something. It took about 45min, so not too bad. The question is how many night feedings to do? I'm thinking 2-3 and eventually cutting down to once and none. She was probably nursing 5-8 times a night, so I can't do cold turkey.

Oh, and the good news is that she can go back to sleep. We woke her up when we went to check (the door knob was loud), but she fell back asleep in half a minute or so. I was so proud :) Now I need the resolve to keep it up.

So we survived the night. She got up at 11, 2, and 5. I nursed her and put her down awake and she slept till 6:30. During the night she cried 15-20 min, so not too bad. Hope tomorrow night goes even better.

  • With N, once he was able to put himself to sleep, he stayed asleep (usually) until 4am or later after the first couple of weeks.  I think I fed him twice overnight for a couple of weeks and then just once from there on out.  I didn't do it intentionally - he just stopped waking up, or rather if he did wake up, he was able to put himself back to sleep.  Good luck!

  • I'm a mean mom - we went from bedsharing and 4-5 wakings to nurse to quitting the night feedings completely. But I don't know how much she was actually eating for nutrition and how much was for comforting her back to sleep. She didn't know how to fall asleep at that point without the boob. So I had to cut it out completely. She adjusted fine and just ate more before bed instead once she got used to it.
